Only in a belt and braces sort of way.
Both are 99.9% accurate.
In a couple of locations I've known TomTom to be 2 years behind the SCDB and the SCDB a year behind TomTom.
Just copy the ov2 & bmp files to your map folder.
They will appear by default. Go into map view to turn off / on.
Go into Manage POI's to control sound.TomTom13E Reviewed by TomTom13E on . TomTom Speedcams from SCDB (World) I want to support this forum with the latest Speedcams from SCDB. Thanks! I actually quite like having these SCDB POI's. I prefer to leave my TomTom in 2D mode, which generally gives a wider view of whats around you. Whilst I still use TomToms speedcams to trigger an audible alert of speed cameras on my route, it's interesting to see what other traffic cams are around me using the SCDB POI's.
The best part is it shows different icons so you have another visual reminder of what the speed limit is on each camera as well as knowing if its a redlight camera only... or a redlight/speed camera or just a speed camera.
I even made up some new icons so the whole thing looks more slick. I'd be happy to share the .BMP files if anyone is interested... let me know.
The catch, and its a big one. To have all those different icons, you end up running 38 new POI's. Whatever processor/ram my TomTom is using just cant cope very well with more than a few POI's. So when using SCDB things look very jerky. I think the screen might refresh once ever 2 seconds :P
I found a website that could merge .ov2 files - so that is an option. But you would lose the icons specifically showing you the difference between a 50km/h Red Light camera and a 70km/h Speed Camera for example.
Unless there is a way to make a single OV2 file that can reference multiple .BMPs ?? Maybe this is possible, as when I turn on the 'Petrol Station' POI it show a different icon depending if its a Caltex or BP etc. Anyone know if this is possible?
EDIT: I did find this:
POI OPTIMIZER - Poi Optimizer insert skipper record into TomTom Ov2 file
Apparently can help improve POI performance on TomTom Devices... I will test.
Not sure if the fact that the files contain the whole 'world' would be affecting performance or not also? Would it be beneficial to have OV2 files that contain only data for your needed region?
EDIT 2:
I was able to use this editor to trim down the .ov2 files to only include my region. Yet to go for a drive and see if it makes any difference in performance :P
