Nick,
Thanks for your feedback.
1. My problem with "using proper NB1 maps" is: how to identify them! Alfred often referred to NB1 maps, but didn't explain (in terms I could understand) how one knows which are NB1 maps. There's nothing in the Compatible Chart or the Thread Finder pages that indicates 'NB1'.
2. The postcode bit was just pulled from someone's comment in the discussion thread, so I have no way of verifying it. I can delete that mention if you think it's misleading or unnecessary.
3. My understanding (from poshea's post in the discussion thread) is that poshea's navcore is just simba's with the Australian traffic enabled.
4. Being a raw novice, I haven't yet tried to find details about the 'nuts and bolts' of hacking meta codes. Perhaps I should have a look and see if I can handle it.
5. I remember seeing someone (perhaps you?) mention that settings can be restored by copying back your old loopdir directory. If it's just a matter of copying loopback.ex3 (which I presume you meant) back into the loopdir folder, I should mention that in the notes section of my doc.DanielF Reviewed by DanielF on . If you don't trust me, look here:
The 995_8530 are the NB1-maps of the current release, the 990_8351 of the last release.
Since a few releases the mapchart has a new structure: first the High-Level, then Carminat, then Low-Level, then NB1, then another "High-Level" for devices without speech-control, then other Low-Level and at last the Truck-Europe.
P.S: But why these discussions in the TUT thread? Only a few days, and we have page 49 in the TUT again...

Alfred,
It's not that I don't trust you! It's just that, until Nick pointed out the NB1 notation for some maps in the Thread Finder, I couldn't find any way to tell if a map was for NB1 in those two threads mentioned.
As for the layout of the Compaitible Charts, I understand what you're saying. I just think it would be nice if those charts had another row of headings explaining what the groups of columns are for, rather than newcomers having to rely on advice from good people such as yourself as to what the columns mean. But I know the whole effort that goes into them is voluntary, and people are busy.
And I guess why these discussions are happening here is that this is where I posted my beginners' instructions (at biggerdave's request), and people are just 'replying' to that post here. I'd be quite happy to move them back to the Discussions thread.
Daniel

These continuing "discussions" in this thread are (hopefully) just helping/clarifying your much appreciated efforts to simplify the how-to instructions so are OK to keep as long as it doesn't run to 54 pages & more than 500 posts!!
Once those who know all about the Mazda devices are happy (by not pointing out any further errors or omissions) then maybe I'll tidy up this particular thread
