Ireland has installed its first average speed cameras!
Following a delay of around 12 months due to administrative issues, Ireland has installed its first average speed cameras.
Point-to-point cameras now monitor the average speed of drivers using the Dublin Port Tunnel.
If a motorist's average speed exceeds the 80 KPH limit they will be issued an €80 fine and receive three penalty points on their licence.
Ireland's transport minister, Shane Ross said: "Any initiative that has the potential to save lives and reduce serious injuries on our roads is to be welcomed".

so far no reported accidents there, but could make some income as many speed though there. It will deffinately slow the traffic throughput. If you think about it all accidents happen at about 0kph. So only difference is the speed prior to the accident. only difference is really vehicle in front is slower than one behind, so matter what speed is being done

Agreed, it's the stopping too quickly rather than the speeding which hurts!
