Fooling with navcores which are built in car is never a good idea .
Most often these navcores are integrated or at least communicate with the car-software !!!
If either your dealer or Tomtom Home dont update , better leave as is .
Upgrading your map cant hurt though .

If its just for the looks ;
Try ColorSchemeEditor and see if you can get the CLR file inside ( dont know if it works , but it works on all Tomtom devices )
With a bit of googling you should be able to find some CLRs too , ready to use
Normal procedure for Tomtom ;
Create a folder in navcore and name it "schemes" .
Drop the CLR in there .
