yea... Nothing much good of 512mb/1GB internal memory - you can try to use soldering kit to replace faulty internal memory with new one/miniSD-card adapter, but why? As it works from SD - it works! Just buy 4-8GB SD-card and be happy

works fine from memory card as long as it has navcore and bootloader on there. only downside is when you change sd card it takes a couple of minutes to boot up.i dont know if it would be as slow if the internal memory was working.

Actually, bootloader IS in the not-accessible NAND-flash inside device. Putting NEW bootloader on SD-card - it's just one-time action for upgrading it. After upgrading - bootloader on Sd - just a waste of space.

Doesn't matter - inside/outside for cold start-up, after you connect/disconnect to PC device - it always restarts completely - takes long time. Another issue - if you only want to switch/change map - if navcore is in internal memory, and you only change SD-card with different maps (no navcore on SD) - it won't reboot, only "wakes-up" - of course much faster.

Don't worry - just by 8GB SD-card (microSD+adaptor), put as many maps as you like there - no need to pull out/push inside then

just bought another go 530 with a broken screen and swapped the pcb, got an internal memory now, which is quite useless as it's too small but at least the device boots up much quicker and connects to the computer much quicker too. job sorted. i just need a cheap screen now and i will have a spare with no internal memory.

....because any model produced after Sep-2010 cannot take cracked maps which is why we always recommend an x20/x30 (or x40/x50 if you want live traffic)

    Must remember this advise.
Am looking for a unit for a nephew; was going to ask what models still use FAT.
Do all GO models fit into this category?
    Thanks for info.
