go530 internal memory
just discovered this forum by chance and i am well impressed with the information on here much more than some other sites ive visited.
i think i already know the answer to the question i am going to ask but here goes anyway.
ive just inherited a go 530 from an uncle of mine, hes still with us but had to stop driving. ive had a go530 for a long time and been updating it for a couple of years with no problems but this one has a problem with the internal memory. its recognised by the computer but reads 0 bytes used 0 bytes free file system unknown. it works via sd cards with anything i can put on there. i think the internal drive is unrecoverable. i know most flash drives can be recovered from this point via a program from the manufacturers but to my knowledge tomtom dont have such a programme. what do you think?tomkindle Reviewed by tomkindle on . go530 internal memory just discovered this forum by chance and i am well impressed with the information on here much more than some other sites ive visited. i think i already know the answer to the question i am going to ask but here goes anyway. ive just inherited a go 530 from an uncle of mine, hes still with us but had to stop driving. ive had a go530 for a long time and been updating it for a couple of years with no problems but this one has a problem with the internal memory. its recognised by the computer Rating: 5

re: go530 internal memory
You could try to reformat internal memory then copy your SD card contents across. If that doesn't work then just stick with the SD card.

Re: go530 internal memory
yea... Nothing much good of 512mb/1GB internal memory - you can try to use soldering kit to replace faulty internal memory with new one/miniSD-card adapter, but why? As it works from SD - it works! Just buy 4-8GB SD-card and be happy

Re: go530 internal memory
works fine from memory card as long as it has navcore and bootloader on there. only downside is when you change sd card it takes a couple of minutes to boot up.i dont know if it would be as slow if the internal memory was working.

Re: go530 internal memory
Actually, bootloader IS in the not-accessible NAND-flash inside device. Putting NEW bootloader on SD-card - it's just one-time action for upgrading it. After upgrading - bootloader on Sd - just a waste of space.
Doesn't matter - inside/outside for cold start-up, after you connect/disconnect to PC device - it always restarts completely - takes long time. Another issue - if you only want to switch/change map - if navcore is in internal memory, and you only change SD-card with different maps (no navcore on SD) - it won't reboot, only "wakes-up" - of course much faster.
Don't worry - just by 8GB SD-card (microSD+adaptor), put as many maps as you like there - no need to pull out/push inside then

Re: go530 internal memory
just bought another go 530 with a broken screen and swapped the pcb, got an internal memory now, which is quite useless as it's too small but at least the device boots up much quicker and connects to the computer much quicker too. job sorted. i just need a cheap screen now and i will have a spare with no internal memory.
