It is mainly to reduce the size of a map, by taking away files that are not necessary for nav2 devices, if there is not enough memory on the nav2 device where you want to put it up.

If there is enough room reducing is not necessary.

    Thanks Peter for the info.
I stick to devices with SD cards so space is not so much of an issue but obviously critical with limited internal memory.

Did you try to connect the Carminat SD to the pc via SD reader, and get list of maps that you can buy for navcore 8.2xxx?

I just manually delete cspeech*.*, cphon*.*, tmc*.*, traffic*.* and arp*.* as I don't use a navcore that has speech recognition or traffic.

An answer would be useful. If you go to Buy Maps in TomtomHome and switch from "Standard" to "All", you will see all the maps that would work on your device. Then compare this with "Compatibility Charts", look for meta codes, done.---- If the Same Nav2 Map available as Nav3 Map, you can use it, i think. Try it with a small Map, if your Internet Bandwide not optimal, if you want

I'm french and I need France, but I can use Europe, Western Europe, Europe_Zone_South or Europe_Zone_West. I already have the last maps with available meta (1110_11862).
