    The mapsettings.cfg does appear in my SD Card in the UK maps on the Tomtom but I cannot add anything to the Internal Memory as when the SD Card is out the Tomtom gives the screen to indicate that it needs an SD Card to be put in to the slot. I thought this was normal for this version of Tomtom One XL altho' there are versions of this model where the maps are stored on an Internal Memory and the SD Card adds additional maps if needed. Apologies if this is wrong.

    Thanks for you help here.
    livvy Reviewed by livvy on . Unable to Store Settings - File access error Has anybody come across this error message on their Tomtom. This is appearing on my Tomtom One Xl. The SD Card has all the correct Maps and Nav and works fine but every time it switches on it has to go thro' the Set Up stages of Country, Voice, Map Colours etc. which is really annoying. I don't think it is anything to do with the SD Card as I have tried another one and it does exactly the same thing. Any help would be appreciated. Rating: 5

    Your One is the first One made and don't have internal memory, only SD card.
    What about your bootloader, are you still using the original ?
    As the bootloader controll youre hardware, maybe an update is needed or a restore of the original.

    The Bootloader is 53026 which I have looked up and appears to be the original one for the Tomtom one XL with an Internal Memory. Will it be the same Boot for my TT One XL with no Internal Memory as I can't find any reference to the Boot for my TT anywhere.

    If I go by the numbers then that is one of the first boot loaders. I have today received an old One without Xl and there is an even older one namely 5.0500
    It keeps trying, I'm not sure, but would you dare to update the bootloader to 5.5128 for example ?

    Updated the Bootloader to 5.5128 as you suggested and on restart when adding the language, Voices etc. it still shows the message "Unable to Store settings". The Tomtom still appears to be working ok as it loaded the Map and found satellites ok.

    Running out of options I think.

    Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

    I'm afraid you're right.
    But if we go back in time, mapsettings.cfg will be created.
    I assume that the ttgo.bif file has also been created, it contains the latest data, such as:

    [TomTomGo]
    DeviceName=TomTom One XL
    DeviceVersionHW=ONE XL
    DeviceSerialNumber=L14227L00857
    DeviceUniqueID=XXXXX XXXXX
    RamDiskVersion=20130404
    BootLoaderVersion=55279
    LinuxVersion=547200
    ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
    ApplicationVersion=1234792.2
    UserLanguage=Nederlands
    UserName=
    LastConnectionTime=Never
    CurrentVoiceInfo=Claire
    CurrentMap=1040_Benelux
    CurrentMapVersion=1040.9800
    CurrentHomeLocation=51.93066,4.58973,85 Koperwiek, Capelle Aan Den IJssel
    Traffic=N
    CurrentFuelpricesType=
    CurrentFuelpricesTypeString=
    CurrentFuelpricesLastFullUpdate=

    And many more.

    Here are a number of settings that you have to enter again and again, which is not the intention.
    The message that something cannot be written may lead us astray because there is indeed a mapsettings.cfg.

    Next test, I assume you have a copy of the whole system somewhere?
    In that case I want to propose both the map settings. cfg and the ttgo.bif file, a hard reset and restart.
    You will of course end up in the same routine again, but once there you can check whether both files have been recreated.
    If that is the case, then we are left with the question, what cannot be written?

    Some problems cannot be explained, I have a large number of ttgo.bif files from various TomTom users, who all had a problem with something, for example, could not patch.
    After creating a working system for them it worked in 99 out of 100 cases, later they were able to perform the trick themselves, it was usually impossible to find out where exactly the error was.

    Don't give up, just keep going.
    Mind your mailbox, please.

    I removed the mapsettings.cfg and the ttgo file and did a reset and both files were recreated where they should be. I've checked my mailbox.

    Mind you, with Bootloader 5.5128 you can use bigger SD cards (up till 16 or 32 Gb)
    Maybe you can try an other SD card. Copy the
    contente of the old SD card to a new one and looks what happens.
    If it works and you use a 8 Gb or bigger, you can install the big maps like Europe_1045 (about 4Gb)

    My current collection; NAV2: GO 300 (M1); ONE XL (L1); GO XXL (GQ); GO 910 (V7); GO 950 LIVE (W1)
    NAV3: GO 820 LIVE (FU) NAV5: GO 5200 (ZB)

    Good idea Peter but unfortunately the error message is still coming up with an 8Gb Sd card and 5.5128 Boot.
