I haven't powered it up yet (no windscreen mount), but I will do so when I get home.

While I play around with it, will updating items like navcore and other things like QuickGPSFix affect my ability to hack and modify it?

I am thinking about some Android phones, whose best chance to root the phone and install custom firmware relied on using an older version of Android.

Reading up on backing up the GPS ("Full Windows Backup").
