Very strange. Indeed, 520 is fast device with more powerful processor than ONE/XL devices, also more quick internal memory. if your navcore+map are on the external SD-card - I'd suggest to change it quicker one (class 6-10). Also, it is noticeable, that big map can sometimes slow down device. In order speed it up - try several things:
1 - perform "windows backup" of your navcore/map (if have it only on device)/POI/etc.
2 - format your SD via SD Card Formatter 5.0
3 - first copy MAP files to newly formatted SD, then - navcore, etc.
4 - be sure that you haven't choose to show too many POI in TT - the most slowing down thing for any navi - exactly option to show too many POI - then device tries to re-locate these POI instead of showing the map instead.
5 - if you mean just sluggish reaction of navcore to your commands, but everything OK during navigation - it's just behavior of newer navcores (9.430 and higher) - earlier versions (8.xxx) reacted quicker...
