Made an offer of £3.50 which was accepted for the sd card adapter.
Quick question:
Can I just copy the contents of my hard drive to a 32gb sd card to have it up and running or is there more I need to do?
Stuart.

Sure, there is nothing else to do.
I've bought an interface converter too to do that job, but using the usb port is also possible only a little slow.
I've used my old 20GB HDD to replace someone else his faulty HDD, it was at least for 90% OK and than it's convenient to have that interface to be sure the HDD is faulty
Buy a good quality SDHC card class 10, I've always a spare one with me, for my Rider v2 too
With that interface I received two more or less the same flatcables, but when you have a more better look, one is at one end more or less dubble as thick as the other end.
There are two different HDD's used by TomTom, Toshiba and Hitachi and their connections are different.
Have a sharp look when you'll make the gap, measure exactly where to start, make the first gap as small as possible and keep measuring all the time
I'm rather sure you'll be quite satisfied with this modification.
Goodluck !

Whilst replacing HDD with SD it seems an good opportunity to replace the old NiMh? battery with a lithium one - does such a thing exist and would it be a "straight replacement".
TIA

These devices are realy old, sure it's a good idea to replace the battery too
Mine is still working for at least an hour and a half due to the SDHC card which is using less power from the battery
They are sold everywhere and depending on where you live, I still have two spare, one for me and one for ......... who lives most nearby.

Oh ....dear.
Striped it down and fitted the sd adapter.
Put most of it back together to try it out.
When turned on it displays that a sd card needs inserting.
When I put any 16gb card in, even a full size card it displays a message that looks like it saying Take the card out and the card symbol is blue...
Any ideas on the problem?
Stuart.

Are you sure about the flat cable is connected correctly ?
Be sure the SD or SDHC card has the right normal format and not ntsf ?
I'm rather sure your Bootloader must be correct and must be above 5.5028
I don't remember which Bootloader was first on my device, but I've changed it later to 5.5128

Hi pe1agp,
I think the cable is fitted correctly. When I turn the device on it shows a black and white animation to insert a card. When I put a card in it another animation which looks like it's showing to remove the card which is blue in colour.
