Yes your device start more quickly, but most of the time is spend to find the satellites.
By the way, you're unable to change a Compact Flash easy and they are as far as I know more expencive when you want a realy BIG one.
Mine SDHC 32GB Class 10, I bought it for less than € 20 and don't forget you've still to update your device via the slow usb port.
Be carefull with these small connectors, they are broken into a split second.
You've to do some measurering where to make the gap to get the SDHC card in and out.

Yes, a big CompactFlash-drive is expensive. But the hard disk of the 910 also can be replaced by SD(HC) with a suitable adapter. No housing-modification or soldering needed, only replace the micro-harddisk with adapter+SDHC. And offcourse bootloader update before these modifications...

Bootloader update is not realy necessary due to the Bootloader read already the 20GB HDD
And sure you need to make a gap in the body for access to the SD slot.
All aluminium frames have a special place for the HDD as well for the SD slot
I did mine already more than 2 years ago

Offcourse, all x10-devices have the same frame. Whatever solution you select, you must allways open the device:
Solution 1: Add the x10-cardslot (with soldering), modify the housing and use a big SDHC
Solution 2: Add a big SDHC without any solderings and any modifiing the housing, but you need a suitable adapter to connect with the harddisk-interface.
Solution 1 is more flexible to use more than one memory card, but with a 16 GB you can use the maps for all available countries
If no bootloader-update needed, all the better for it.

@Alfred_ML for your information, this SD slot fit perfect in all the x10 devices.
I still have a one for spare and also two batteries and for sure one spare screen.
Forget soldering, these SMD parts are so small that you need at least a special hot air solderstation, for that large amount of money you're able to buy the most expencive TomTom
