The Start 20 is one of the newer devices that can't use downloaded maps...so the choice is yours

Oh so no map updates from the forum and no metas and no fun? :-( That sounds like a bad bad deal :-( Is there no way to make the maps here work on a Start 20?
You're beautiful. Yes - you reading this! :-)

No, none of the above is possible...there is an extensive thread about that subject
If you want to use maps etc from here, you need to be looking for a high end device that was built before September 2012...like a Go x40 or x50

Thanks fredderf. I just came back to my post to tell you that I found biggerdave's thread but you had already posted it. Thank you. I reckon I should give this a pass, then and look for the ones you mentioned :-) Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.

If it is a Start 20 then it uses MyDrive and cannot be cracked/manipulated whatsoever. see around here for confirmation of model/device:-
All the newer NAV3/4/5 devices as they're known that use MyDrive rather than TTHome seem to lose something every time a new model is released
Fredderf was too quick for me...ignore this post of mine now

Are you saying that features disappear from these devices with new updates? That sounds nasty... I am right now so bloody confused! Haha! Let me lay this out in the open -
1. I have the XL 335 FULLY configured for New Zealand (v995 map) and partially for India (v950 map) - thanks to help from lovely people here on the forum.
2. The only trouble I have is the audible speed warnings that I just cannot have on the XL.
3. I can grab the Start 20 which I can grab for about $40, barely used, with India lifetime map support. Apparently, this has speed warnings but if you have lived in India, you know that is useless. Yet - this has updated and a lifetime supply of India maps so that is nice. But I will not have the NZ maps on this unless I spend money slightly more than what I am paying for the Start 20 (and that won't have updates in any case!).
So now? :-)You're beautiful. Yes - you reading this! :-)

With one of the old Go x20/30/40/50 (i love my Go 920) you can't get a current India map, only the old Android-map India_950_6558. But (at the moment) the current NZ-maps and TT or POI speed-warnings (and a lot of other maps).
If you want a current lifetime India with lifetime speedwarnings (and the current NZ and other worldwide maps too), the only way is one of the newest Go-devices like Go 5200/6200 (and a lot of money). Only you can decide what is more important to you.

Thanks, biggerdave. That is what I feel compelled to do. Still weighing pros and cons as there is just that audible sound beep that I am still after. But what was that about disappearing features you mentioned? Is that a real thing? That sounds very mean of TomTom to take away features from devices.
Yes, Alfred. That lousy speed warning feature is playing spoilsport with my XL. Otherwise, I am ok with the old India and very happy with the current NZ maps on my XL 335. I dont want to spend a fortune on the 5200/6200 devices at this time, really. Out of the legacy TTHome devices, which would be the cheapest that you would recommend that would serve my purpose (traffic would be nice, too!) :-)You're beautiful. Yes - you reading this! :-)

A 520/530 you can use an RDS/TMC receiver for (free) traffic, a 540/550 has a built in sim card for live (paid for) traffic
re 7** or 9** versions of above (like 730/950 etc) only differ from the 5** series by internal memory size which is no problem as they all take an SD or microSD card anyway
