G'day guys. Still struggling to develop a process description that works (but still trying, @Scott!).

I've downloaded the 995 Australia map, and processed it with FastActivate, but the NB1 says "No maps found".

I'm hoping @poshea might be able to offer some specific help, as he would be using the same map. Either through this thread, or by PM. Once I can get this going, I still plan to post an all-encompassing 'how-to'. But I don't have the technical understanding to troubleshoot my problem, and would welcome any help.

Which map you have downloaded? There isn't any usable High-Level-Australia-Map or NB1-map at this moment. You can't use a Low-Level-map like Australia_995_8513.

Alfred, OK, this is the sort of help I need...

What is a 'High-Level-Map' and a 'Low-Level-map'? More importantly, how do I find (on the maps pages) which is which?

This is exactly where the 'how-to' lists need more definition, so novices like me can find and choose a map that will work.

In the words of an infamous Australian politician: "Please explain!" :-)

@DanielF: Here you get the informations about the current 995 maps:

High-Level-maps are these green-marked maps 995_8507/8/9 (and also the 8546). This colour-marking you find also in the Tread-Finder-link

Dave and Alfred, thanks for your continued help.

I had visited that 'Compatible Chart v995 Maps' page before, and of course the 'Thread Finder - TomTom v995 Maps' page to download a map. But I find the Compatible Chart a little confusing (I'm a raw novice, remember!), for a few reasons...

Firstly, which section should I be looking in? Some early 'how-to's spoke about 'Android-compatible maps'. Does that mean I look in the 'Android' section at the bottom of the chart? Or do I look in the TomTom section, even though the NB1 is not listed amongst the devices there?

Assuming the latter, with my 'patched' firmware being 10.855, I look across the 10.XXX row. But what is the difference between the dark-green and light-green ticks?

And nothing in that table says: "these are 'high-level' and these are 'low-level' maps (or what that even means)!" Also, there is a red asterisk next to one map's number, and white asterisks next to three others. The red asterisk is explained in the right-side panel, but I could not see any explanation for the white asterisks.

Let me state at the outset that I really appreciate the tremendous work that a lot of people have put into this whole process of hacking maps for the NB1, but the length of the thread and the spread-out nature of all the information really makes it hard for beginners to work out exactly what they need to do to get a map working in their NB1. If someone could just add a little more detail in some of those critical places (like the Compatible Chart), it would help we beginners a lot. Assume we know absolutely nothing (not far off the mark for me at least!).

Anyway, I took a leap of faith and assumed that I should be looking in the TomTom 10.XXX row, in which I find ALL the maps have a green tick (some dark green, some light, whatever that means). So I assume that means I could use ANY of those maps?

Then I go to the Thread Finder page and look for 'Australia' maps. I find two with no meta data, and one with (8513). Some data appears next to that map's listing (I assume this is 'meta data'?), but what do I do with it (not mentioned in Greatnloopy's instructions, nor others that I can remember - but it's a huge thread; easy to forget something!).

So I just assumed everything I'd need would be in the download file. I downloaded it, followed Greatnloopy's process, except deleting the old '*meta*' files, the arp*.dat files, the safety_cam* files and replacing them with the new ones, all before before copying the new map data. Then ran FastActivate from the card, selected 'Update FastActivate', then (when updated) 'Update Meta.txt' then 'Patch maps...'. That all completed successfully, but when installed in the car I get the 'No maps' error. And when I look at System Info in TomTomHome2, it shows 'CurrentMapVersion=0.0', which is puzzling.

So where to go from here?? Any further help will be much appreciated. And I still promise to document the final 'working' process for all the other newbies, if I finally succeed!

Forget these "Android" confusions. At this time no more corresponding Android-maps exist. Last corresponding Android-release was 950. Today only High-Level-maps you can looking for. And the NB1 of course listed: 995_8530!

The NB1-NC 10.xxx is a special case. Really it is a later NC 9.0xx, so you can only look for NC9-suitable maps.

    You have only 2 options:
    1. the current NB1-map you are looking fore has a activation -code. Then use this map (Australia_995_8530).
    2. the current NB1-map you are looking fore has no activation -code, but the current corresponding High-Level-map has the activation code. Then use the High-Level-map ( and their *.meta) and the missing parts from the current NB1-map. Instructions to combine these maps you will find in this thread.

If neither the NB1 nor a High-level-map has activation code, you can do nothing. You can only buy the map or wait for the next release...

You need to know, that 995_8507 is the marking of the european maps, 995_8508 is only for northern america maps and 995_8509 is for the rest of the TomTom-world (like Australia). 995_8546 is "worldwide". So it make no sense to look in the 995_8508 section, but of course in the 995_8546, if there a australia-map (with code) exist.

    Alfred,

Thanks very much for this - I'm slowly making progress! :-)

I'm thinking that what you call 'High-Level-maps' are those with with IQroutes, Alg and HNR (whatever those mean). But you say: "And the NB1 of course listed", but the compatibility chart doesn't mention NB1 anywhere!

Then you say: "the current NB1-map you are looking for has an activation-code". But what is an 'activation-code', and how do I determine which maps have one? And how would I use it?

My next confusion is that you suggested map 995.8530, but that map has no meta data. It was my understanding that we need the meta data to adapt these maps to the NB1. What am I missing?

I'm not going to tread on Alfreds toes as he is our Mazda expert but just to say, yes, the "high level" is fully loaded with IQR, ALG, Cspeech, ASR, TTS, Vocaliser, HNR etc as shown in the compatibility chart with explanations here

    "activation code" = "meta code"

I appreciate it's a PITA sometimes to a newby but worth the effort & patience you're already showing.
also some more (hopefully) helpful posts here too

I don't know, what you mean...995_8530 is the marking of the NB1-maps. The minimum needed features of a NB1 map you only find with a High-Level-map, not with a Low-Level and not with a Carminat-map (995_8510)

All i want to say: There are no activation-code for a 995-Australia-map for your NB1. Neither for an NB1 nor a suitable High-Level-map. You can only look for an older map with code, buy the current NB1 Australia_995_8530 or wait for the next release.
I recommend buy the map and share the code...
