Actually for me this was the on thing missing. There is the map version in the TLV, so I'd say it does matter. Anyhow this is like 3 seconds of work so...

OK update. I downloads 965-7250 map and edited the tlv file. I used an empty usb stick and copied the back up of my original sd card on to it. made all the necessary mods on that and tried it in TThome and it read the maps as being activated and present on the SD. only did that so as i could test it without running backwards and forwards to the car.
once that was all recognised in TTHome I copied and pasted the entire Europe map folder from USB to SD and copied the edited tlv file from the maps folder in USB to maps folder in SD.
back to car and put the card in . waited a few minutes to boot up and it works. showing the map info under tomtom info in settings on the nb1 as 965-7250.
now i just need to test it all later when i go out.

Thanks to everyone for all your assistance

Just noticed though when i click more info on TTHome for the map stored on the card it lists as 950-7250. is that normal? or is it because the original map was a 950 version?

My silly question time. I've just upgraded my map from 960 to 965 and it has wiped my home location and favourites. I've had a look through the files and can't see anything obvious to copy over from the 960 maps and I have not seen anything on these forums either. Does anyone know how to copy them over?

    Hello Guys,

My first post on this forum so forgive my ignorance. My dad has Mazda 6 2.2 (2013 bought in Germany) and I am trying to help him with the latest maps.

I have read a lot through the forum before posting, in order to avoid asking silly questions. Anyway, couple of things are still not clear to me:

    1)Back-up card:
I managed to copy the contents of the original card to a 16gb Sandisk one. After copying all files, I checked and updated the back-up card using the TomTom Home app with the latest map fixes. It works properly in the car. Most of the folks here mention that during this back-up process, the card should be taken to the car, although that it wouldn't recognize it, some files would have to be written ( loopdir and loopback.ex3 were already present without going to the car). I do not understand whether inserting the card in the car prior to pasting all files is necessary or not?

    2)MAPS
Guys, I would like to follow
    Link URL:

instructions but honestly, I have no clue which maps should be downloaded. All I know so far is that 965/966 are the latest ones, but other people seem to use Android maps. Also I see that they are mixing them, as one doesn't have the important meta files, and others have same strange routing issues. Nowhere I was able to find a good tutorial/instructions on how to combine maps, how to choose them, what to look for and how to deal with those prefixes :

    Europe_East_965_7250
    Europe_East_965_7252
    Europe_East_965_7280
    Europe_East_965_7282
These numbers after 965 don't mean nothing to me...

I would like a Europe (at least Eastern Europe) map on my dad's Mazda 6 2.2d 2013, please help out with some advices on how to better analyse and distinguish which number I need. Also how to mix them.

    Thanks a lot!

Hi based on my recent experiences. If you already use a back up card as i do , all that is needed is to copy the full contents of the back up card to a folder on the pc. (in case of issues you can just delete the contents of the card but DO NOT FORMAT it and copy back the backup and start over).
Follow Greatnloopy's guide and also go back through this thread and look at what has been said about deleting 3 unused files. I NickJH has also mentioned about the postal files etc. that's good info.
As for the maps i can tell you 965_7282 does not have meta so cannot activate. 965_7280 doesn't work. 965_7252 i have no info on. but 965_7250 has worked for me today.
I also had to edit the .tlv file in maps folder using notepad++ in the very top line near the end there are 3 numbers which reference the old map you had. change those to 965 (think that's the bit TThome sees as it now shows correct on mine.) then on line 13 there are 2 references to the previous meta files 100***.meta. change the last 3 numbers to the ones which match the meta files for the new map in the associated country/region folder. and save the file.
Remember though if you do mess up anything. you still have backups in the folders of the backup you made earlier.

what i done used a clean memory stick and copy the contents of my sd card. copy the contents of the new map folder into the existing one. deleted the old meta files and post code files also the 3 files which have been discussed previously. updated the .tlv and activated and saved it all. then open TThome and it should recognise the usb stick as sd card for NB1 if so then let it open and look for updates. after that click back and open buy maps. it should show you available maps and currently installed maps on sd. if it only shows available maps and no currently installed maps something is wrong. i did this to save going backwards and forwards to the car and waiting for it to start up everytime. once it works just copy entire contents of usb stick back to SD card and go put it in car and all will work.

Just a quick question. when i went out today to a place i know. i tested the nav unit and it was all good. it even picked up via my live service subscription that a road was closed and set the route accordingly. so that was great. but the only thing i have noticed that is different from before is that a few of the spoken road names are incorrect, not all but just a few. any ideas how this could be as they were fine on my old map? they show correct on the map screen though.

    Hi,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I would try with the 965_7250 map as you suggested, but stil I have no idea how to tell which number to use in the future (for future releases for example). I think that a short tutorial on that one will be of a great help to all newbies. What about the Android maps? Should I use them? Any links for the correct one since in the "new android maps" section there is a map with italian name...

The first 20 lines from my current .tlv file in maps (from the sd card that originally came with the car) are:
    1 00c3 2480 0101 0181 0131 6874 7470 3a2f

I am looking at the first and the 13th rows as per your suggestion, but I am not able to tell which ones are for the map version that should be changed to 965 and which are the 100***.meta ones..?

Thank you in advance for your good cooperation.

    Kind Regards

But I recommend only the Europe_965_7250, because Europe_East 965_7250 now differs in country coverage and the others don't work.

    Hi,

Thank you - I have already read the links but it was good to take another look. What about the .tlv file? Do I have to change any values there?

Also just to confirm, I have a friend with a 2012 Mazda 3. I know that within 60 miles the version gets locked to the car and cannot be used in another. In case I make another copy for my friend, and put it straight to his car, would it work or it would be locked to my father's 2012 Mazda 6? Any guides of unlocking it for another car?
