    Default GARMIN Nuvi 660 Multiple Map Files

    Hello,

    What Files supports my Garmin Device and which Files I should update?

    Is it possible to put multiple maps on the Garmin Nuvi 660? I realize there is a 2 Gb file limit, so if I make up two map sets using Mapsource (North & South US) to cover the entire US is there a way to put them both on the unit and switch between them as needed? I do have a SD card installed.

    Thanks much any help.

Often, indeed almost always, on the occasion of the release of a release of Maps the Forum is overwhelmed with questions (and therefore of Post) of the type: My Nuvì xxxx supports JCV? If Yes, what type? Can I install in my Nuvì xxxx 3DBuilding Map? Where to copy Maps? In which folder? Rating: 5

    Looking at the garmindevice.xml
    you can have 1 Preinstalled mapset in the internal storage Garmin/gmapprom.img
    and 1 supplemental mapset Garmin/gmapsupp.img that will work together.
    Your device can can use an SD card up to 32Gb so you could create a set of under 2Gb mapsets but to use them you would have to change their name when you want to use one with a PC to gmapsupp.img as your device can only recognise 1 gmapprom or 1 gmapsupp.
    Alternatively multiple SD cards.

    <Path>Garmin</Path>
    <BaseName>gmapprom</BaseName>
    <FileExtension>img</FileExtension>
    </Location>
    <TransferDirection>InputOutput</TransferDirection>
    </File>
    </DataType>

    <Identifier>IMG-Format1</Identifier>
    </Specification>
