You said
The path Garmin/Map is when you add a supplemental map to the device's internal storage.
On an SD card : The "Map" folder is in the root of the card NOT in the Garmin folder as per post #32
I moved your post to this thread as it explains what goes where including JCV files
Read fromGarmin_Nuvi Reviewed by Garmin_Nuvi on . What Files supports my Garmin Device and which Files I should update? What Files supports my Garmin Device and which Files I should update? Often, indeed almost always, on the occasion of the release of a release of Maps the Forum is overwhelmed with questions (and therefore of Post) of the type: My Nuvì xxxx supports JCV? If Yes, what type? Can I install in my Nuvì xxxx 3DBuilding Map? Where to copy Maps? In which folder? Rating: 5Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 24th May 2021 at 11:20 AM.
Unless you are a "New" member, having used the Thanks button regularly is the quickest way to get help.

I'm aware of this, which is why I said Garmin and Map folders as opposed to Garmin/Map. The xml file says gmapprom goes in Garmin and gmapsupp goes in Map.
Post #1 doesn't explain what JCV files are or whether I need them. The XML file says it is a Lane Assist Template. I found one in the hidden .System folder. It doesn't appear to be related to my problem.
I put the maps in the root folder of another GPS as gmapprom and got the error "can't unlock maps". Aren't all the maps posted here unlocked?
