I think I may be biting off more than I can chew, but....what is the first step with Mapsource open, to create a .img file from the unpacked download files?
I don't see how to open the downloaded map files in Mapsource. Thanks.melody Reviewed by melody on . Post #1 says copy the City_Navigator_North_America_NT_2024_20.gmap folder you extracted to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps.
Then open MapSource ,you should have it in the drop down
Like this and
or just wait patiently , these maps were only released recently.Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 13th December 2023 at 08:46 AM.

Thanks! I had an older map in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps, and didn't read/reread the first post.
As for waiting, I figured I would/should try this to develop myself a bit.
I'm in the process now and I'll see how it goes in a few hours.
Thanks again.
Edit :Everything seemed to have worked well for me, thanks!
2 questions though on the settings within Mapsource. I see you have "Medium" selected and no check for Include route calculation data.
I chose "Highest" and did not have the option to check the route box.
From what I read the route check box doesn't apply anymore.
Is that correct and does the "medium" vs other setting affect the maps generated?Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 7th December 2023 at 04:52 AM. Reason: combined posts

No all the settings you are talking about are to do with how you use/view MapSource on your PC.
The only influence on the map output is what you select (size) & how you name it (Display name)
If you just ask the members in this thread what area you actually need this map for & what device you have there are many that will create one for you while you learn how to make map sets yourself.Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 7th December 2023 at 07:22 AM.

Thanks. I will say for anyone else who wants to generate their own maps that it seemed clear enough . I just had to install Basecamp in order to install Mapsource, then it all worked out based on the feedback above. Thanks again!

beside Mapsource you can use Mapinstall , the difference between them , with Mapsource you can generate your own Map , and with Mapinstall you have to install the hole Map
