I transferred new gmapsupp.img files to my patched Nuvi 2599. Are these Europe 2024:10 maps unlocked? Similar gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp1.img including Australia and South Africa work fine, but these new, some days loaded Europe maps do not work. What could be the reason my 2599 does not show Europe maps?

Your device would show a warning if they where locked. Assuming you are using an SD card due to the size of the supplemental maps they should all go in a folder called Map and have uniquely names to each other ,your device supports IMG files with custom names for example EUNorth.img & EUSouth.img.
