I have a Nuvi 2460 which has served well as my guide around Europe for many years. I've run into two issues that I've not dealt with before.

I let Garmin Express update my base map (CN North America) and it expanded beyond the internal storage of 8gb and created a MAPS directory on my SD card. Not in itself a big deal except for needing bigger SDcards.

I'm trying to load a supplemental map (CN Europe) and sticking the gmapprom(1).img files into a SDCard/GARMIN directory works fine. The download from here includes a bunch of other files (ASR, SID, SqLite,JVC, etc.) that I've never tried to use before, but depending on exactly what they offer, it would be nice to try. What exactly do they offer?

Also, I NEVER expect to use the device in North America, so the basemap is really a waste of disk space. I use the device to avoid data charges on my phone, and deal with being out of roaming range.

According to garmindevice.xml, most of the "extra" files are supposed to live in the /.SYSTEM/ subdirectories. There are, of course, all the same category of files in those locations already there from my recent basemap update.

So my issues are:

File locations and space issues

1) My device storage doesn't have enough space left to just dump all the ASV, SID etc. files into /.SYSTEM.
2) Can I just start deleting the existing files from those directories (and just lose that basemap functionality?)
3) Is there are way to just delete the basemap and replace it with the EUROPE map (I can never let Garmin Express attach, if that's important).
4) Can I delete the SdCard/MAPS files and just lose functionality, or do I risk bricking the the device?
