Hello. I need the following files to update the maps on a Ghibli running CPT13. i downloaded most of the files from this thread but cant seem to end up with this combination. appreciate any help:
└───Garmin
. │ gmap3d.img
. │ gmapprom.img
. │ gmaptz.img
. │ gmapbmap.img
. │ gmapdem.img
. │
. ├───ASR
. │ 06PGQW3K.SRX
. │ 06PGQW3L.ASR
. │ 06PGQW3M.ASR
. │ 06PGQW3N.ASR
. │
. ├───JCV
. │ D3191370A.JCV
. │ D3060350A.JCV
. │
. └───SID
. D2656390A.SID
. D3406350A.SID
I was able to pull together most files except for gmapbmap.img and gmaptz.img. i ran the update on my car and got an error 0x 31A2 but then a message that said the install was successful. Problem is somethings way off. my shows nothing when i click on map info, completely blank, and when i look at the map it shows my car icon, town labels, but theres no roads at all.Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 10th April 2021 at 02:36 AM. Garmin Nuvi 3790
Hello all,
I have searched for what I could on this forum about the 3790, and how to upgrade it. I have upgraded it once before, but I have completely forgotten what I did. I think I remember just putting the huge map file "gmapprom.img" in a map folder, but I don't remember doing much else.
So I am trying to figure it out all over again using this forum. I know you all know this process, so I am reaching out for some help.
I followed this link:
to determine the files I need to upgrade it fully.
this is what I found in my "garmindevice.xml" file:
006-B1101-00 <- Hardware ID (HWID)
510 <- Firmware Release
nüvi 3790 <- Device ID
.System <- Internal Path
gmapprom <- Map Name
img <- Extension of Map
JVC <- not found
NTU <- not found
gmap3d <- Yes, Found
SID <- not found
other posts about the 3790 says it uses the NTU maps. but there is no mention of NTU .xml file.
my folder list on the device has a .system/JVC folder with files in it, but there is no mention of JVC files in the garmindevice.xml file.
from all the files in the folders that look like I can upgrade (ASR/SRX, G2S/DB, JCV) they all have files dates from the same time period (maybe last time it was updated). all the assorted map files have the same date as well (gmap3d.img, gmapbmap.img, gmapdem.img) as the other mentioned files. So it looks like those are the files I am using. What I am curious about on the remaining files in the folders (ASR/SRX, G2S/DB, JCV) that are older (like 2010 old) are needed or can I free up some space and delete them. For example ... (D2339020A.JCV with a 9/11/2010 date) or (D232800.DB with a 9/11/2010 date). first file is almost 50mb and the second is 178mb.
as for the maps,
I was downloading the City_Navigator_North_America_NT_2022_10.gmap to put in on the GPS. I generated the map file using mapsource and it gave me 1 file "gmapsupp.img" which I understand I can rename to "gmapprom.img" and upload it my GPs and delete (actually copy off for a backup) the current file there in ./map folder like it is today?
Do I need to find NTU or will NT maps work for my 3790?
If I can use NT, I have downloaded maps from this post:
I now have from throughout the thread:
gmap3d.img
gmapdem.img
renamed gmapsupp.img (2.85g) to gmapprom.img
but where do I get gmapbmap.img?
I know this is a long thread, but I wanted to demonstrate I am trying to find this information on my own and learn the process, but what I have learned is a bunch of pieces of information, but not sure how it all links together so I have all the information as not to brick my GPS.
Thanks for any assistance!! hoping to find the guys who know this Garmin 3790 well, and exactly what I need.

@ Your device is capable of using both NTU & NT maps. for simplicity lets assume you only want the latest N.America maps NT.
There is a possibility that this update 6.49 GB (6,976,003,870 bytes) won't fit on the device even after deleting all the old files you mention.

Thanks Garmin_Nuvi. Thank you for the guidance! Is it possible to put it on a MicroSD card and run it from there? I see that my 3790 has a slot for it. I assume that's what its for? If so, then I just modify the GarminDevice.XML file to point to the SDcard?
Question on the SQLite files. The file in the filelist image you posted, lists a single file of 160mb. the downloaded link to the SQLite file has 3 files in it. which version do I need? Will the 3 file version work on my device or is it the larger 170mb single file version? I am not sure exactly what these files are for or how interchangeable they are.Last edited by Mongoloid; 13th April 2021 at 01:51 AM.

I would clean up the old files on the device & update the delete the old gmapprom.img and put the New gmapsupp.img on a FAT 32 formatted SD card in a folder called Map ie. a Supplemental Map
NO garmindevice.xml modification required
The file list is from my nuvi 3790 I updated to help you ,the only SQLite file offered was D315600.db (DL added to above)Unless you are a "New" member, having used the Thanks button regularly is the quickest way to get help.
