Here's what I'd do in these circumstances.
1. Delete the device map from the device by going into MTP mode and getting rid of the gmapprom.img and the gmapsup1.img on the sd card.
2. Go into Garmin Express and update just the map, when it asks you if you want to put the rest of the map on an sd card, don't allow it too, just get a region of the continent on the device.
3. Now's the part where some magic can happen. If you already have your device patched this will work fine. Send me a pm of the remaining region of EU that you need and I can do that for you (whatever express did not put on the device). Once that's done, you can put as many maps as you want on your microSD. Additional images are named gmapsupp.img then gmapsup1.img then gmapsup2.img etc. and all it takes is a little renaming. Also there's no need to rename gmap3d since you can only have one on the device and one on the memory card maximum. See the tutorial section of this forum to get more information.

As for your situation with the microSD card problem that's on you. I reccomend at least 16GB as you can install almost the entire world maps on there if you wanted to.
