For anyone interested here's what I discovered. My 2720 (now) contains

* 1820MB of 2024 NT "preloaded" maps [Garmin claims they're not updatable--false!] covering my area of interest.
* 100MB of supplemental maps [user loadable] covering other areas of interest.
* Unit firmware 7.20 [from the Garmin website].
* Five voice files [updated/loaded via WebUpdater].
* Traffic receiver firmware [already loaded].
* Custom startup "splash" screen image [uploaded with xImage] showing owner info.

In addition I have a number of waypoints and routes loaded. The track log (when on) collects up to 10,239 points (tested).

All in all this 2720 is, IMO, just as good as most new Garmin models (if not better in some respects). I paid a small fraction of the 2006 "new" price for it. That said Garmin shows it as "discontinued" and won't provide support for it. Neither will Garmin Express. I had to learn the in/outs myself.

AnnoyedOne Reviewed by AnnoyedOne on . Garmin StreetPilot 2720 question I recently acquired a Garmin StreetPilot 2720 with all but the box, cheap, on eBay. I updated the firmware/maps/etc thanks to old forum posts found via the web and it works great. [FYI NT maps DO work in the unit despite what Garmin/others say. Also the track log has the normal 10,000 points NOT the 2,000 Garmin states. I've run my own tests to confirm this.] Being a model from 2006 it DOES NOT implement USB mass storage mode nor does it take ANY type of external memory. Thus there is no Rating: 5
