For anyone interested here's what I discovered. My 2720 (now) contains

* 1820MB of 2024 NT "preloaded" maps [Garmin claims they're not updatable--false!] covering my area of interest.
* 100MB of supplemental maps [user loadable] covering other areas of interest.
* Unit firmware 7.20 [from the Garmin website].
* Five voice files [updated/loaded via WebUpdater].
* Traffic receiver firmware [already loaded].
* Custom startup "splash" screen image [uploaded with xImage] showing owner info.

In addition I have a number of waypoints and routes loaded. The track log (when on) collects up to 10,239 points (tested).

All in all this 2720 is, IMO, just as good as most new Garmin models (if not better in some respects). I paid a small fraction of the 2006 "new" price for it. That said Garmin shows it as "discontinued" and won't provide support for it. Neither will Garmin Express. I had to learn the in/outs myself.
