how to know which files like JCV ASR SID right for my nuvi
good day all Friends
i try to google and search for the right answer but no full data .
i got it only here from our experts
i dont know how to know the right files that will work with the nuvi model
like nuvi 42 jcv files are different
now i have three units not being used from 2014 and i wanted to update maps and files to get it working right
nuvi 2595 i believe it uses NTU map
but does it uses same nuvi 42 jcv ( small) or else .. or like i was told nuvi 42 only needs JCV and Map due to his specifications.
how to find right ASR files for voice..
if someone can help .

Garmin auto devices have evolved over the last 20 years but all can use .img files for navigation. The advent of visual depiction of intersections (Junction View)we saw cheap end models with simple graphics and more expensive with PhotoReal this requires more storage thus more cost.Voice Command also make unit more expensive for the same reason .FourSquare,Parkopedia & National Parks etc.Have all added features and with the cost of memory dropping most now have the best resolution JCV's. Screen size & resolution has given us multiple JCV files that are range specific.
Again NTU maps include Unicode text encoding for enhanced language support, when you use or search in other language (like Russian, Spanish, German, Greek) the Unicode support is essential. That's why Russia & Europe are NTU maps.
nuvi 2595 uses PhotoReal a quick look at the existing juntction views in Simulation mode you can see the images are like a Photo also a Google seach of nuvi 2595 tells you it uses "Lane guidance with photoReal junction view"
If you really want to learn how to do everything yourself for just "three unit" read everything under Garmin, download all the tools and spend hours playing and sometimes bricking your own devices.Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 22nd November 2019 at 01:04 PM.

Although Garmin_Nuvi's advices are always excellent, the best way to find out which files are suitable for a certain Device is to open the Garminevice.xml file.
I have just written a small guide on this topic:

Thanks a lot for that easy explanation which made things more clear for me. i ve been looking for such data long time
I tried that and yes i got the info
but still how to know the right file number for each nuvi . As you said file changes with each map like ASR files the number changes and it comes like in ntu 2020-20 two folders for different nuvi same for JCV
so how can i know the right number if possible
so many thanks again for the great job
i just tired voice after putting ASR SID SQL files and it always gives this feature is not available in american English so switched to British English .. got the same so i assume i have wrong ASR also tried other ones ..Last edited by samsong; 23rd November 2019 at 12:33 PM.

Looking into GarminDevice.xml you will find almost everything ...
For example, the right JCV Files:
The 2 JCV are from CN EU NTU 2020.10
For CN EU NTU 2020.20 they are D6212100A.jcvand D6165100A.jcv (090 suffix become 100)
For CN EU NTU 2020.30 they will be D6212110A.jcvand D6165110A.jcv (100 suffix become 110)
and so on, for ALL files except ASR (this file change Name every time, don't ask me why)
