Hello, I recently purchased a GARMIN nuvi 260w second hand. I have taken down the following information about the GPS. I have read through some of the GARMIN threads here on the forum and the Garmin WebUpdater v2.5.7 ---->

and also Garmin Express have seemingly been the only ways mentioned to update the fimware on the GARMIN GPS's.

1. Would updating the firmware help provide better satellite signalling? I have noticed that the satellite signal does drop off occasionally with the nuvi 260w.
2. Is it possible for me to update the firmware of the GPS without having to run Windows or install in a virtualbox setting? As I am basically using only derivatives of GNU/Linux based desktops here at home.
3. The 'Software Version 4.00' listed above is the firmware version correct? Which is what should be done firstly before updating the map or anything else on the device?

4. Is it possible to brick the device during a firmware update or better yet is this issue at all common?
5. I have completely backed up the nuvi 260w files to a folder on my computer and verified the size is correct. So I believe if there are problems I can restore fairly easily.

I have asked enough questions about this as of now and do appreciate help with this issue.
