Dear Garmin_Nuvi and FireFox58,
Good day,
May I ask you for help please?
My device is Garmin Drive Smart 50. Official latest firmware installed 5.90
The below is an extract from "GarminDevice.xml" file

The problem I can't switch from original official Automotive Maps to Topographic Maps for Russia v6.37 (downloaded from the web).
I switched MTP settings to "Mass Storage" option and opened access to the folder ".system".
Then I deleted original official map "gmapprom.img", and put under the same name topographic map 6.37, preliminary unlocked via gimgunlock-0.04.exe"
I've tried both FIDs: 3332 and 4594.
But my Navi failed and says: "Maps are corrupt and cannot be used. Go to to download the latest maps ". Photo here
I suspect the problem is I need to patch my firmware. Am i Correct? If yes, could you please help me how to do it? There are so many manuals and advices here from users so I'm really got confused...

Wow I've succeeded installing patched firmware. This is correct manual and flash kit for my device
The small problem I've encountered was the following. I tried many times to format in FAT32 my microsd card(SanDisk Ultra 8GB MicroSDHC) under windows 7x64, but Gamim DriveSmart 50 says it's broken and asks to "reformat".
Well, I downloaded Acronis Disk Director 12.5 and did format in FAT32 there, parameters as follow: cluster size - 16kb, basic volume (not logical). And it was OK for my Garmin Navi.

Hello, very good to everyone, the links do not work, this method would work for a garmin nuvi 55?
I am trying to update it but there is no way it will recognize any map it just says that the map is locked.

Hello Garmin_Nuvi,
How to "make" these files to create an SD card to update your GPS, I saw that there are * .BIN files, thank you in advance.
Make sure your device is fully charged.
Unpack contents to fresh SD card formatted FAT32
Ensure your device is fully OFF (not in standby), insert the card into device and power on.
"Loader" will appear on screen for a while then the device will boot up when the flash of patched firmware is complete.
Your device may reboot its self during the process just be patient.
Your SD card will have a new file named 154.bin this is a backup of the device's non-volatile memory region and may save your device later if needed,so keep a copy of it somewhere safe.

Thanks, but a little complicated all this, I prefer to patch the GUPDATE.GCD firmware twice, once to read JNX and a second time to read IMG files. It is simple and efficient.

You are probably talking about the Outdoor models, in fact on these models you can update the patched .gcd file directly via WebUpdater.
In road models with GSV protection this is not possible and the Patch must be installed using the procedure described in the Guide.
The alternative way, via Pre-Boot mode, is even more complicated and difficult
