I always thank people for their help. When I said that I have done it before, I meant I have patched the device on previous versions, so searching for Thanks wouldn't have worked.
Thanks for the link. I proceeded as per instructions and it didn't work (formated the sd card, copied the unzipped file and started the device with the card inserted). If you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
I have no idea why it shows 5.91, as on the device info and Garmin Express both show 5.90. As you said, it might be beacuse I patched on a previous software version.

@agustinalen
Only fw_all.bin component needs patching. So even if the GCD file is opened with FirmwarePatcher.exe it only patches fw_all.bin and only increases the version in it. The version of boot.bin remains unchanged but can be changed separately with RGN_Tool if you wish. GarminExpress reads the file GarminDevice.xml so should show 5.91 in fact as your XML reads <SoftwareVersion>591</SoftwareVersion>.
What size and type of card are you using and did you format it in FAT/FAT32? NTFS and exFAT won't be read. If it's correctly formatted check that the card is being recognised in the hidden inventory behind the battery symbol, press and hold it for ~5 or 6 seconds to reach it, then press 'Next' in lower right corner until you reach "Data Card Test Page".

The map was only unlocked in MapSource and needed further unlocking to work in the device. Best to use MapInstall to update modern maps because it uses a more compatible algorithm to compile the *img file. Maps made with MS can cause navigating errors, freezing and spontaneous reboots.
EDIT: I see you've edited your post, good you've got it working. Irf you have problems in use, re-send another *.img using MapInstall.

Unlocked bluecharts on EchoMap
Hi my friends.
New Garmin marine GPSr does not support unlock bluechart maps anymore(like echomap series). I also tested locked maps with creating unl file lock with device unit ID or micro SD serial, but not helpful.
Free custom maps are also not supported buy theme (not authenticated).
These devices just work with garmin official SD card and maps which downloaded trough garmin express.
Is there any Idea for solving this problem?
I have echomap 42cv to test.
Thanks.Last edited by Garmin_Nuvi; 17th May 2021 at 03:00 AM.

I am successfully uploading unlocked maps to Ehomap 93. The software is being replaced with an unlocked one. I don't know if it will work on 42.
