    Default Garmin 60CSx to GPSMAP66s

Hi everyone, I'm searching and scrolling for days now in all the Garmin tools and I have the feeling the solutions is under my nose, but I can't see it. I have a few maps working fine on my 60CSx, but my 60CSx isn't working fine anymore so I bought a new 66s. After 14 years on duty, the 60CSx can enjoy retirement. But the last days I started to remember the sleepless nights in the time I installed the 60CSx. One, so far the emotions. How can I use my maps on the 66s, because now it's still telling me 'Can't Authenticate Maps' I hope someone can walk me through some steps to make, so I can go outside instead of spending more hours behind my Mac (OK, that's maybe another thing ... I do have a W10 laptop somewhere, so if that's something I need, no problem).
    Thanks! Rene

I can give you some information about map images. I use a 62s and I am assuming your 66s works in the same way.

If you have several maps for your 60csx I assume they are on separate Micro sd cards and are all called gmapsupp.img. If so you need the tool gimgunlock.exe (PC obviously I don't know Macs). You should find it for downloading by searching on this website.

(later edit - Mac version here. I think the procedure is the same -

    )

Your 60 could only have one map image per SD card but your 66 should allow you to have several different maps on the same micro sd card and they can be called different names like France.img up to the capacity of the card.

So you find the existing map .img file in the Garmin folder on the Micro SD card or you copy the maps into the Garmin folder on a micro sd card. Copy gimgunlock.exe into the same folder on the card. Drag and drop the map images one at a time onto gimgunlock.exe and let it do its stuff. You should now be able to use the map on your new device by enabling them in the settings menu. Obviously you will not see a French map on screen if your 66s is in UK

If you have used Mapsource to add maps to your 6ocsx that is a different procedure. Please say if the above is useful first.

    What maps ?
MSV: Weak - it verifies the validity of map signatures in a simple way, you can unlock an .img using gimgunlock-0.04 (without patching your firmware), but in case of unicode maps (CP65001) you must modify the CP value (see the Temporary authentication of Unicode maps*).

You may want to Patch your device to use unlocked maps & JNX
Look in your garmindevice.xml to confirm your HWID is 3028 then you can use this patch

    Hi Rene,

The administrators have moved your post and my reply to this new forum. I am guessing that is because your 66s would need a firmware patch or something like that to work with your older maps.

My apologies, I think the information I posted is not relevant to your question. Hopefully someone on this forum will be able to give you useful advice.

    Good luck

Thanks. It's the Friluftskartan v6 PRO. I tried the Mac version of the gimgunlock, but without succes. I tried the route via firmware patcher but I had two issues: the GPSMAP66_WebUpdater__600_Patched_JNX.rar file can't be found and my device / id isn't in the list with HW ID numbers. I have the .gcd file but don't know what to do next.

The most simple way is to change the CodePage for the Frilufskartan from CP 65001 into CP 1252, like Garmin_Nuvi wrote in post #1201. No patching is needed.
Use Gmaptool or ImgTool to do that change.
My 66s has the HWID of 3028 and is listed in the latest fw_list.
When you have already the patched.rar file, just unrar this file and rename the gcd file to gupdate.gcd and put this file in the map Garmin of your device.
