Hello guys,
I gave a nüvi 42 device. The owner removed the device from the Express sooner than it would have done. You don't have a backup. The GarminDevice.xml file is 0 bits. We do not know the software version or the HWID number. The device boots but has no map on it, so it is useless. It can't even be copied because it's as if the device is completely full. The PC sees the device, but neither Express nor WebUpdater can see it. How to bring the device to life? Factor reset did not help.

Hi! Read starting from Post and above.
Garmin Cure3 will help you to reinstall Original Firmware and in copying Detailed Map in Device.
Download Original Firmare from here:
Nuvì 42 doesn't need any Firmware Patch to read Unlocked Maps, so Original Firmware is the best solution

you don't need to use Cure3
your device is okay
delete map files.* it could be gmapprom.* img or gmapsupp.* img.
Delete all files in the GPX folder (including the archive folder)
after that restart your device
then сonnect your device your device to your computer
Garmin Express will now see your device

If the device memory is full, it could be due to corrupt and/or not visible files.
You should thoroughly check the memory and make sure there is no unused or hidden space.
The Nuvì 42 was born with enough space to contain at least a Western Europe NTU Map, therefore a 3 GB Map.
In any case, using an external SD card is always preferable because, in case of problems, just remove it.
Take an empty SD card, create the \Garmin folder and copy a Map into it.
If the Device boots regularly and recognizes the Map you are good to go and you don't need Cure3 software.
Just fot info: there are 3 ways to transfer Firmware on device:
1 Using WebUpdater software
2 copying it in \.System folder and reboot
3 via external SD using a dedicated package

in fact, everything is much simpler.
The device memory is full. Therefore, after rebooting, the device can recreate the garmindevice.xml file. file size 0 bytes.
Consequently, Garmin Express or the WebUpdater will not be able to detect the device?
Therefore, you just need to clean the device manually and reinstall the maps.
