"Did you put the original backup on the SD card, before you did the download with the Discovercare manager?
No I had the latest files on the card I think. It said I have the latest version."

It is important that you start the Discovercare Manager with the original contents on the SD card.
I think it choses the correct update on base of the contents of the SD-card.
In your case it must say that there is a update for you.

I still think the PRO file are not the right option. Probably the 8 Gb part is still to big for you SD card.

Small update: did you lock the SD card when you put it back in your car?
    The manual especially say so.

Yes I did Peter. My car is unavailable at the moment. I’m having some minor repairs done so I’ll keep you posted on my progress. I’m thinking I might have to resort to asking a dealer for help.

    Ok, I wait and see.
Be aware that a dealer can ask a lot of money for a update.
But he can help you to know for sure what model you have in your car.
Discover Media or Pro and generation 1 or 2.
And maybe he knows why the update is not working.

    success and greetings

Yes I’m well aware of the charges that they can impose which is why I’m exploring all possibilities to get this working soon.
    Cheers for now.

    Peter,
I have just emailed my local VW dealer to request some help if possible. Hopefully there is a solution to all of this soon. While I was "googling" last night I stumbled on this:

in particular the Mapcare section. Have you seen this before?
Perhaps there is just a setting within the software that can be activated??

I raid the site you found. But it only tells the things we already know. And it tells about a update for cars elder than week 45 2013. Your car is from 2015.
There is also a site mentioned where you could download new maps, but that does not exists anymore.
So, I am afraid it does not help very much.

Hopefully your local dealer can tell you something more.

By the way I am curious about the time difference between us.
I live near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. About where do you live in Australia? When I made this post the local time was 9:20 AM

Correction Peter. My car is 02/2013 model and discover care says it’s gen1 version. Which means my car falls into that category (pre week 45).
Dealer told me same. They quoted $175.00/hr to “have a look” for me. I declined because I’m sure my car isn’t going to accept any newer maps now anyway. Looks like I’d have to install a newer head unit etc if I want new maps. A very expensive exercise for me I’m afraid. So I’ve put the old maps back in now. Perhaps someone will come up with a hack one day.
Re time difference. I am currently 8.5 hours ahead of you. As from next week I’ll be 7.5 hours ahead due to daylight saving ending.

I did not read your post 1 correctly. That is why I thought it was from 2013.
in your pictures I saw somewhere “Row 2020” that means your software must be reasonably up to date. But for the moment I am out of options.

you could try to find a VW forum in Australia which can tell you more, but I understand that you are looking on internet a lot.

Very interessed how you go on. If I don’t react, send me a pm.

    greetings
    Peter

Yes the “Row 2020” did appear ONCE when I tried to install the latest maps a while ago. However, it only appeared for a minute or so then up popped the usual incompatible data message. Very frustrating.
    I'll keep searching!!
