Maybe a stupid question: did the navigation worked with the original SD-card?
I now see there is also a Golf version "from 2015". Does the Discover unit looks more like that picture?
The difference there is that if you download it, you get a folder "maps".

The Golf "until 2015" is for a Discover Media generation 1 and the "from 2015" is for a Discover Media generation 2 (newer model).

Me myself I got a VW Passat Variant 2016, so I choose the "from 2014" version.
That is a Discover Media generation 2 model and that works well.

There is an other way to try.
VolksWagen got its own download manager.
If you have choose your car and device you see on top of the maps the Discovercare update manager.
Download that and install it on you computer.

Set back the original backup at your SD-card and start the discovercare manager.
It will help you to download and install the new map on your SD-card.
Warning: the download with Discovercare takes a very long time.

    Hi Peter,
Thank you for your good wishes, however I didn't get much sleep. Well I managed to download and install the latest maps overnight via discover care manager but unfortunately all I get is a message saying "The navigation data in the infotainment system are not valid. Please check data."
If I now go into System Information it says:

    Device Part number 5G0035846
    Software 0142
    Navigation Database
    5G0919866BC0057 ROW 2020

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a software problem (needing updating) rather than a map update.

I have attached some pics to show you what I mean. Including one of the unit itself which is a Discover Pro I suspect even though Device Part number 5G0035846. Which I believe represents Discover Media???

    Cheers for now Greg.

Sorry for the late answer (for you)
I am a little bit lost now. I did see the pictures and it looks more like a PRO than a Media
    1. Did the Discovercare Manager do the update without any error message?
    2. Is it possible that there is a special update site for Australia? (I don't think so, but ....)
    2. Did you try the downloads from the Golf "from 2015"?
    3. Maybe you take a look at the Download Manual at the bottom of the download pages.

I am not familiar with the update of PRO devices. I only know that there must be a installation started in the car.
By a Media device it is only enough to put the new version on the SD card.

I go and investigate some more for you and let you know.

Yes it downloaded without any errors.
Perhaps I will try and download after 2015 and try.
Pro devices use much bigger files too. I strongly suspect the unit needs a firmware upgrade to accept new maps.
    I appreciate your help Peter

    Another question.
Did you put the original backup on the SD card, before you did the download with the Discovercare manager?
Did it tell you that there was a update for you?

I downloaded the Pro files and found that there ar two parts in it: a M1B1 (8 Gb) and a MIB2 (17 Gb) part.
But there a other folder and files than you said there were on you original SD

By the way a software update of the system can only be done by a VW dealer.

No I had the latest files on the card I think. It said I have the latest version. However I went ahead and downloaded it again.

Yes I noticed that too. Are you suggesting that I try the 8GB folder?
The only files on the original disk were "markets" folder and a "dbinfo" file.
