    1 General part.

Periodically maps needs to be updated. New maps (releases) comes out four times a year. In recent years many changes appears in coverage of Eastern Europe maps (Russia, Ukraine, Poland, etc.), Western Europe worked out by TomTom almost 99.9% long time ago and varies from release to release insignificantly.
Unfortunately it must be noted that sometimes newer maps contains some errors that weren't present in 2-3 years old maps.
Of course, when outdated (incompatible) software and maps are installed on device, you also will not get lost on a trip ... therefore some functions cannot be used .
If someone is satisfied with what is installed in navigator, then this reading can be finished here.
    And we move on.
In any case more up to date map is preferable.

    2 Identification of map.

Each map has its own name and numerical release-build designation.
    For example:
    -Europe_875_3612
    -Australia_875_3675
    where appropriate:

A / Europe (Australia) - map name, indicating maps area coverage. In some cases (Australia, Benelux, Scandinavia, etc.) it's clear from the title.
Coverage of other maps (Europe, WE, WCE, Europe_West etc) - countries included in the map - can be viewed in the TomTom Home program or in the attached table
(regardless of release table is not changing, so don't pay attention on map's release-build)

    Link URL:
Only the registered members can see the Link URLs. Please Login OR Register.

B / 875 - map's release number (series). According to these numbers determine the freshness of the maps (875 will be newer than 870 and so on . The higher the number, the newer map). Notwithstanding the last digit-build (see below), all maps of same release are identical by release date and built on same map base.

    C / 3612 (3675 etc) - build of the map.
Without going into the wilds of the theory, we assume that this is an official code of map belonging to specific version of software (group of versions) / unit model (group of models)
We take as a basis and that the various maps of the same release and build has the same coverage of particular country. Means, the details of road network in Russia, for example, in the map Russia_Baltic_Finland_875_3612 (200mb) and the map Europe_875_3612 (2.4gb) and the map Europe_East_875_3612 (1.35gb) are identical.
Connoisseurs TomTom may challenge this assertion and will be partially right. But my articles are designed mostly for beginners, and these differences so insignificant that at this stage of material studying we can safely ignore them.

    3 clones of maps.

Within the past half past one years the number of maps in each release is increasing. TomTom produces almost the same maps for different versions of the software / device model. Conventionally, we call these maps 'clones'.
Due to changes made in earlier TomTom decently differing maps, today we can distinguish several groups of clones.
Let's have a look on examples of these groups in maps of 875 series.

a / maps of the same build:

    Europe_875_3613 = Europe_2gb_875_3613 = WCE_875_3613 = WCE_2gb_875_3613

letters _2gb now has absolutely no sense, because this map has the same size as the similar map of full size - about 2.4gb in the above case.
! This applies only to maps Europe \ WCE but not in any way relates to the maps of America!

Four clones are essentially the same map and differ only titles and three small service files. Size and all included features are identical.

Similarly, we obtain a chain of clones to build 3615 / 3675 etc

b / maps of different builds:

    Eastern_Europe_875_3613 and Eastern_Europe_875_3671
    Eastern_Europe_875_3615 and Eastern_Europe_875_3675

These pairs of maps differs only by presence / absence of a voice command input files.

Each release contains about a dozen of similar groups of clones.

    4 Select the map.

We have sorted out and understood what a map is. Next, we'll answer the question, how find map to our particular unit.
In fact every forum where links for download maps are published you can see compatibility table for maps and firmware (software). All they are about the same-type

    Link URL:
Only the registered members can see the Link URLs. Please Login OR Register.

    Explanations to the table

1-Cspeech-Files in maps for ASR ect. Files necessary to use a computer voice (pronounce the names of cities, streets, landmarks, etc.). Used in conjunction with the folder ASR software, not available for Russian Language (The files take up to 200MB, and if necessary, can be safely removed from the map or changed with zero length files)

2-IQRoute-Intelligent Routing Intelligent route planning basing on the time of departure
(Arrival to the final point in the route), basing on the average congestion
along the route depending on the date and time of day

3-ALG-Advanced Lane Guidance gives you extra clarity when navigating difficult junctions. When you approach complex motorway intersections, you also get a still 3D image on your screen that clearly indicates the lane(s) you need to take.

4-ASR-Advanced Speech Recognition - control your TomTom device using voice commands (navigator recognition commands)

5-HNR-House Numbering - possibility to work with alphanumeric numbering of houses

Thus the table helps to understand what features are incorporated in the maps of different builds of this release.

Of course we want our new map to support maximum of features. And here our choice of mapsis limited with two items: the version number of firmware installed on our device and available memory.
Firmware:-if our device is installed with the purchase of soft-10.hhh this article is totally useless. Such devices are not (currently) updatable by your own ... anything and everything depends entirely on the suggestions of TomTom and is made directly through the program MyTomTom almost without users attendance.
-If installed firmware is 9022 or above ...- just forget about this table, because any available map is compatible with these versions of firmware and we are limited only by memory of device, and our desire to install a particular map.
-If our firmware version is lower than previously indicated, we again have two options: either select from the table the map that is compatible with this firmware (no need to look at the table a specific number of software-specified lower limit values), or look in the section = How to update = soft and try to improve the capability of unit.

The amount of memory: Depending on the model we have in stock the device memory ranges from 256MB to 4-8GB (actually more, but we are not currently interested in)
Units with a slot for SD card or internal memory to 4 GB let you use any map without thinking about its size. Not talking them-unnecessarily, there is no problem in this case.
A more difficult situation for those users who have a device without the SD-slot and the memory up to 2GB.
Even removing all potential for a relatively painless removal files from the full map we can not obtain satisfying us size. Therefore, in this case it is necessary to use a zone map (their size is about 1.3gb) or look for few maps (which is quite uncomfortable, because a route is possible only within a single map)

    Zone maps

    Or in more details:

    Southern Zone

Full navigation in the following included countries:
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Canary Islands and the Vatican.

    The northern zone

Full navigation in the following included countries:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland, Netherlands and United Kingdom.

    Western zone

Full navigation in the following included countries:
Andorra, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, the Canary Islands and the Vatican.

    The central zone

Full navigation in the following countries is included:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Monaco, Poland, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Netherlands and Vatican City.

    Eastern zone

Full navigation in the following included countries:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Norway, Poland, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands and Vatican City.
The following countries are covered partially:
Greece (95%), Turkey (63%), Russia (35%), Bulgaria (54%), Latvia (63%) and Croatia (42%, including major cities and coastal areas)
The rest of Eastern Europe is covered by a network of roads with the possibility of seamless navigation throughout the region.

Well, the owners of devices with a storage capacity of 1GB or less can only select regional maps for use. (Or look at the article = The solution of some problems with TomTom =... maybe someone will find another option for memory expansion unit by himself)

    5 - How to download a map.

So, we decided on the choice of maps. There are very few, to get the map on our computer for future work with her.

1 / maps of small size (often up to 500MB) are usually laid in one file and jumps do not cause problems. Just paste these links into your browser and download by following the instructions file hosting.

2 / In order to download a map of large size (and they are mostly packed in archives often) to download all of the map. This may take a sufficiently long period of time. And in this case more assistance is provided by specialized programs.

What is this program and how to use them, look in the article = How to use the container program =.

Prompt another little trick. If aploder puts links to maps on different file storage, all of the maps are archived and password same. What does this mean?
Every single file sharing (if you do not have it on a premium account) will give you download one of the archive, and then make the wait ... (15 minutes or more) BUT: if we see that the map is laid out on three sharing services ... Real-time can be reduced by downloading maps.
    Example:
See a map of the 5 parts laid out on a rapidshare-b-megaupload; in-depositfile
    Parallel to shake:
    Part-1 rapidshare
    Part-2 megaupload
    Part-3 depositfile

ie with each exchanger at the same time I am taking on one part (and instead of a single-shake just three parts)
Parts 4 and 5 after the first injection exchangers take with them (again in parallel), thus wasting time downloading five parts so much as would have spent on the two parts using a single exchanger.

So, all of the map is successfully downloaded to any folder on your computer. It remains to unpack and activate the map.

Decompress the archive to make since the first part with Vinrar or Total Commander. The remaining part of the program will extract automatically.
We got a folder, it is the desired map.And in this form (not the folder-file) and we copy it to the root of SD card (or in the internal memory)

Before you copy, make check map. Sometimes aplodery for various reasons before archiving map copy it in the add. the folder. Thus obtained as a = folder in the folder =.
As such, the map will not work (TomTom simply do not see it)

    6 Notes.

-If you need more maps, you know what and how to do.Haw loaded into the TomTom maps is limited only by memory. And at the same time not forgetting that can run simultaneously and will be only one-your chosen map. To use other maps loaded into the TomTom should switch to them in the menu navigator.

    Good morning,
In that case, I have a question.
I think that I may have tried to go to advanced with my tomtom.
It is the TT one XL. I got it to display that it was running 9.500 navcore and then it was saying that it couldnt find a map. I downloaded 920 5267 as tomtom HOME was telling me that was the map compatible with my new navcore. The issue I then had was that my SD card was too small. I have found a micro SD with a converter which the computer recognises and have tried turning on the XL with it inserted.

The TT has now frozen, but besides the point said that it could not run Western_Europe_1GB_920_5267, I had this downloaded in 3 different RAR files. 1 and 2 were basically the same and 3 was much smaller. Having the same file names how do I put the maps onto an SD card? Do they all go into the root?

    Thanks, Stuart

The map files should be extracted (not unpacked) into one folder. This folder should be placed in root of SD or Tomtom drive. Both map and navcore should be patched before use. Check tutorials if any more guidance needed.

    you should not unpack !
if you have WinRar or 7zip installed , you just double-click the first RAR
thats how you get the map folder
you can simply drag&drop the folder in your sd-card

    dont forget to ;
1 patch navcore , if not already
    2 activate the map
    3 reset

after that it should work normally

    a. Western_Europe_1GB_920_5267 has no meta so you will NEVER get this working unless you buy it & then share the meta with us.
    b. If your new MicroSD card is an SDHC (most are) then you need a higher bootloader to allow your old One XL to actually read these SDHC's see

    c. You may as well use the latest 9.510 navcore search here for a suitable one for your device

    d. The older devices (like your One XL) MUST have the full navcore & map folder & ttgo.bif ALL together either in internal memory or on an SD/SDHC card, unlike anything newer like the x20/x30/x40/x50 which can read internal AND memory card simultaneously.

Yes, sounds bit unfortunate but how do you call this operation? ;-) that's why I pointed to tutorials.

    ^^^^
it are splitted files , they belong together as one whole and must be combined together first
WinRar and 7-Zip do it automatically prior to extracting

but , often people want to unpack the individual splitted parts first which wont work
