    Default Reboot Problem?

    TROUBLE REBOOTING?

Here are some basic things to try if a hard reset (hold reset for 20s) and the clear flash tool won't work:

    1. Fail to reboot after a map update or changes to map POI files.

It is sometimes caused by the file "mapsettings.cfg" in your map folder.
To get a correct version of this file without loosing your favorites connect your Tomtom to
Tomtom Home and use "operate my Go" to manually add a favorite - you can choose any address you like.
Exit and restart your Tomtom which now has a rewritten "mapsettings.cfg" file.
If everything works fine you can delete the newly added "dummy" favorite.

    2. Fail to reboot after a Navcore update.

Make sure that it is not related to the "mapsettings.cfg"
(move or rename the file to test if it is the cause and change it back if it was not).
Start again and do a clean install of the Navcore or try using a differant Navcore.

    3. Still fails to reboot after performing 1 & 2

Delete everything and re-install your backup (you have got one haven't you?).

    4. Still fails to reboot after performing 1 & 2 & no backup?

No backup? (silly you) try following this link:-

    5. Fails to reboot without any changes made or after a shutdown caused by an emty battery.

Try connecting your Tomtom using an original Tomtom car charger and wait a few minutes for the device to gain sufficient power before turning it on.
This has been found to sometimes solve a reboot problem when all other options fail to work.

I trust these options may help some with their reboot problems.

    internal memory needs current
when battery is totally drained internal memory is gone , and will load again from core when there is enough power

    better not press on switch
wait some time for device to have enough current again , often the device boots on its own
[ drum sound and progress-indicator means its loading from core ]

therefor always alter device with full battery , to avoid this

If it is plugged into the USB it will have enough voltage to boot and operate.....even when there is no battery installed at all.

What you say above is correct. However if there is a battery that is very flat installed and the battery is old, The battery can draw too much power from the internal power supply in an attempt to charge and can cause the unit to fail to boot properly or reboot a few times. I have had this with a TT720 and a TT750, where the batteries were old. Fitting new batteries fixed the rebooting issues.

    Cheers

    Reboot Problem?
Same issue with old Go700 - when battery is empty - no help from USB-connection - device will not boot at all, or will try to boot several times till dead-end. After charging (from same USB) about several hours - booting is OK. Bear in mind - usually TT devices connected to USB while booting use to connect to PC without permission...

    thats correct
the device need to reload everyting from core / kernel
this takes a lot of power , a full battery is needed
changing bootloader or navcore with a half drained battery , you risk that the flashing goes wrong ,
    resulting in errors

Hence if you suspect the dead battery is the cause of the problem it is better to remove the battery and use it on USB power until a new one can be sourced and fitted. If it still reboots with no battery in, while on USB power, there is a fault elsewhere causing the problem

I have tried that many times .
Some time it's stuck on splash screen .
After Home installed NC 9057 with W and C EU 2 GB , it won't go past time setting.

    Most probably it's bricked

    Thx. again
