Sorry, my mistake. I thought you had a Y1/2/5/7/8 (ONE-3rd 1GB).

Maybe it's not right thread for posting, but I don't feel like opening new one...
Well, to extend internal memory in GO700 - you don't need any soldering. As this device uses 2.5GB CF-type HDD - the only thing you need is to replace it CF-card. But as you may know - CF cards are rather expensive, so it'll be better to use alternative - replace HDD with SD-to-CF adapter (I bought this one - ), which will cost less than $10, and use any SD/SDHC/uSD card up to 32GB. I used 8GB SDHC.
What the problem can occur?
As you can see - no key on connector is present:

..but you can see rails-keys on both sides of CF-HDD:

as well as on SD-to-CF adapter:

so - all you have to do - attentively orient adapter before connecting:

Done! Now I have 8GB internal. The only difference in GO700 behaviour after this:
1 - no any changes on start screen - similar to pic. from post #5 (about TT XL) - it shows "GO700" and icon of HDD.
2 - on black engineering menu in row "HDD" instead of "ST625211CH" now it shows "SD to CF adapter".
3 - when trying to add/replace files(maps) via PC - it writes to SD on maximum speed, SD carries - in my case - up to 18MB/s.
4 - once, after adding maps via PC - device won't start, showing red cross (same as on pic. from post #5 (about TT XL)). The treatment was very simple - reconnect device to PC, Windows showed "possible errors on disk" - launched checkdisk (actually - it showed "no problems were found) - and problem gone - GO700 started correctly, functioning perfect, lets to switch maps to all I uploaded, independently was it done directly to SD via card-reader, or later - connecting GO700 to PC.
PS Before replacing - HDD is present - engineering menu shows this:

After replace slightly changes:

No significant changes - only "SD-to-CF-adaptor" instead of HDD model... And of course - size of hdd/sd is different - instead of 2.5GB HDD it was 32GB uSD inserted ;-)
Many thanks for the very interesting photoes
So to see it's a quite simple modification if you dare to open your device.
With this speed via USB it's not necessary to get out the card everytime.
Who next ?
For tomtom start is posible?
Reference XD
There is a manual to add extra memory for a TomTom One, but just only for a One started with serial number ??, don't remember which
If you still have problems with the red cross, I would like to advice to search for a second hand GO with an SD slot on Ebay for instance.
I think we've run out of further suggestions across these forums now so maybe time to scrap it?
Agree Dave, in my opinion there are nu further options left
But leave Rusigor's information as a manual
Hi,
I've got a TomTom XL IQ routes (V3?) which has only 2GB of internal flash mem. So I've soldered in a 8GB MicroSD card (no SD--> MicroSD converter because of lack of space) and the device does not recognise it. What happens is when I boot the device connected to my pc, I get into file-transfer mode and that works fine, but I only see the internal flash mem. When I boot without USB, it starts booting, the yellow bar runs, then TomTom logo again, but then it stalls. When I disconnect the SD-card it works fine with the internal memory. So far it seems I haven't fried anything :) But also it seems with the card connected, it DOES make a difference as it won't do a regular boot with it anymore.
I've used this schema:

I've quadruple checked the solder points, and tested with my multimeter to other via's of the solderpoints, to make sure it's correctly wired up, and as far as the picture above goes, it is. I must say though that picture shows WR6_V1.3 on the board, while mine says WR6_V1.4. The layout is the exact same though.
I also have a smaller TomTom One IQ V5, which is pretty much the same board (but a bit different layout) and I've modded that with the exact same type / brand of SD card, and that works fine.
The XL had bootloader 5.5282 if I remember correctly, but as per I downgraded to 5.5138. First I tried 5.5128 (which is running fine on my One IQ v5) didn't even want to install, I guess that's some sort of idiot-proof-check before flashing. Downgrade to 5.5.138 worked fine but the issue is the same.
By the way, this is a 8GB SDHC card, I tried with a 2GB SD card (so non-SDHC) but that resulted in the same issue. Now I've read on a polish forum I might need to actually remove the internal memory chip, but I've never had to do that on any other TomTom I added SD cards to.
Anyone can help me?
