Default Tomtom GO 6250 or Tomtom GO Expert ?

I've been using my trusty old GO920 with the truck software and maps for some time now for caravanning and it's served me well but I've been thinking about investing in a new model for improved response times. I'd pretty well decided to opt for the GO Truck 6250 6" Screen model with built-in SIM as it comes with lifetime maps, traffic and speedcams but also looked at the new Expert model which is claimed to have a much faster response time and HD screen. The main problen however is that it's only available with one year of speedcams after which you have to purchase an annual subscription, currently £29.99 I believe.

My initial question is, is it possible to install alternative speedcams without having to patch the device which I'd prefer to avoid if possible.

Can anyone offer advice on this or alternatively if someone with a 6250 could comment on it's performance as there are some good offers on at the moment.

Okay, on further investigation it appears that it's not possible to install custom POIs on the Expert model so that's no good for me.

Personally I would prefer the GO 6250 with the build in sim card.
The Go expert does not have that and you must use a connection with a smartphone to get traffic information.
The response of (even) older devices has never been a problem for me.

The nav4 and nav5 do not support third party radars, you can only put the official tomtom radars.
If you are looking for response speed and comparing the devices that he mentions naturally I agree with PeterHimself, the 6250 better.

One option is to use the old Go 920 as a speed camera warning with the web database that you use on a regular basis.

Re sim cards, remember that all TT sim cards are 2G which, as we know, is being phased out over the next year or so (and already gone in some countries)

I didn't know that, so the non-SIM 620 is probably a better bet for me. Can you install custom POIs onto it ?

In all Tomtom devices you can put your own pdi, the easiest way is to do it from MDC, you can configure the same account for several devices and share pdi and routes from MDC to your PNA or to your tomtom application on your smartphone.

You cannot install third-party speed cameras on nav4 and nav5 devices.
On nav1, nav2 and nav3 devices you can install third party speed cameras such as Speedcams from SCDB (World)

If you are thinking of using your mobile for traffic than i should choose the GO expert.
The hardware of that device is much faster than from the 6250/620.

Agreed, but I believe that you can't install custom POIs on the Expert model which I need to do. I have a lot of personal POIs that would take ages to add as favourites so it wouldn't be practical.

If you mean to handle pdi as you did in nav2, in nav4 and nav5 it is not workable, you can only add pdi from MDC account and one file at a time. Then if you sync your device with the account the files are shared with the device.

With the patch installed you can use the Simba manual to manage pdi, but in nav5 installing the patch requires unmounting the device.

Okay, I have a Tomtom Rider 410 for my motorcycle which is a NAV4 device (I think) and I have copied personal POI (ov2) files to it via MyDrive so are you saying I can do the same thing with the Truck Expert ?

I would prefer not to have to patch it, I use my patched GO 920 with the Truck software and maps for caravanning and would like a newer and faster device but I need to be able to add my personal POI (ov2) files.
