Tomtom GO 6250 or Tomtom GO Expert ?
If you put the same MDC account on your new 6250 device, as you have on your Rider 410, the PDIs sync without doing anything else, if you already had them on your Rider 410 previously.

You can do this with all nav4 and nav5 devices, with the exception of Go Discover and Go navigation app.

But does that apply to the newer Truck Expert NAV5 model as on balance I'd prefer that over the older and less powerful 6250 or 620 models. It usually makes sense to get the latest technology unless there's a good reason not to.

I cannot confirm that, I do not know the details of all the devices, perhaps the seller or the manufacturer can give you that detail. I think so since it is not excluded in the texts that I have read but I already tell you that I am not certain.

Well I bought the Truck Expert 6 device and it works well but whilst MyDrive connect recognizes it when I connect it via USB to my PC it's not possible to transfer any files. However, using the MyDrive web interface you can create individual POIs (favourites) which sync to the device automatically and import GPX route files or create routes and sync those to the device, you can import POI (ov2) files but they will not sync to the device.

I've raised a query with Tomtom support and the response has been that my query has been forwarded to the technical team.

I believe that the newer NAV5 Discover and Navigation models have the same restriction.

If I patch the device will I be able to copy POI (ov2) files onto it ?

You have not read carefully what is exposed in the forum.
I refer you to post 9 of this topic.

Devices from nav3 onwards osea, nav3, nav4 and nav5 are not visible as a unit in windows. There is no way to see the files and even less to move files from the computer to the gps device through the usb connection as a peripheral.

Tomtom has long limited file management on its drives and the more advanced the device, the more blocked it is in direct communication.

Observe the patch manuals for the units as of nav2.

You can check how nav3 allows a relative ease of management in the patch that does not occur in nav4, if we go to nav5 only by unmounting the devices we can access to install the patch.

Currently patching nav3 and nav4 devices is feasible and relatively simple, with the tools provided by the great MSTMS team and colleagues like master131. The theme in nav5 is possible but there is the difficulty of having to disassemble a device that often costs hundreds of euros.

I did read the posts, my Tomtom Rider 410 is a NAV4 device and I can transfer POI (ov2) files to it via MyDrive Web and Route (itn) files via an Explorer window and it's not patched.

I had read that Routes can be created within MyDrive Web and sync'd to the GO Expert and I've found that Route (gpx) files can also be imported into MyDrive Web and sync'd to the GO Expert. I thought that the same would apply to POI (ov2) files but it does not. It is possible to sync individual POIs to the GO Expert but I have lots of them so it would be tedious and I'd end up with a very long list in My Places. It would obviously be easier if I could sync POI files as well as individual POIs. Maybe they will add the feature with a future GO Expert software update. I'm waiting for a reply from Tomtom support. For me this is the only disadvantage at the moment.

That is what we have indicated on several occasions throughout the topic. You can sync itineraries and ov2 from MDC to any nav4 and nav5 device, with the same MDC account on all of them, regardless of whether they are patched or not.
The patch does not influence the communication of the unit with the official program.

You cannot install radar warnings on nav4 and nav5 devices other than the manufacturer's speedcam.

The manufacturer is never going to let you mass-manage your device because you are only interested in keeping your system closed and protected.

If you expect tomtom to enable massive file management, I already tell you that it will not happen because they have done just the opposite from nav3. In nav3 you could use communication, add community content,

and later in nav4 and nav5 it is no longer possible.

@Orni, I well understand Tomtom's history relating to their devices having had several over the years. Transferring a POI file containing a particular group of locations to a device is not an unreasonable thing to want to do and in no way would require Tomtom to compromise the security integrity of the device. I can already sync both individual POIs and Route (gpx) files via MyDrive Web to the GO Truck Expert so why not POI (ov2) files. We tour Europe, mainly France, most years in our caravan, my car plus twin axle caravan is almost 13 metres long and over the years I've had some scary moments which I've more recently been able to avoid with the truck version on my trusty GO 920T but by today's standards it runs a bit slow and I just felt it was time to upgrade. When I arrange a tour I put all the waypoints for all the sites , stopovers, fuel stops etc. into one POI file for convenience. I plan the tours meticulously and use Google Earth to get the exact GPS locations of all the entrances as I've found that the built-in POIs in SatNavs are not always accurate. I once had to reverse my rig 400 metres down a narrow lane because of an inaccurate POI for a location. So although the Truck Expert supposedly has a massive POI database built in I doubt if I can rely totally on their accuracy in every case and I think Tomtom should recognize the need of some users to want to sync personal POI files. As I said, I've raised a query with Tomtom support about this and I'll report back on their response.
