    TomTom Units with NiCD Batteries

Default TomTom Units with NiCD Batteries

I maybe able to help you if you have old units with NiCD batteries. They are no longer manufactured.
    You have 5 choices really

1 Give up and send unit to a PROPER recycling place... do NOT just put in dustbin
2 Try to Rejuvenate your unit, replace with NiHd battery and send NiCD battery to recycling place
3 Try to make it work again by following instructions (may or may not work) and carry on
4 Get real it is 2021 and technology advanced. Need GPS, get a new or reconditioned new model that does all you need and SO MUCH MORE
5 Listen to the people that know these things

You would not ask a dentist how to fix your car, or a computer sales rep to sell you a computer. Damn, you would LOL. Do not, they work on a bonus. Ask someone that knows, US here at this Forum.

I could easily sell you a unit that you did not need, or one you needed (or thought you did) and I would get paid and get a bonus as I am great at my job. But think about it, how much to I know about the products I sell?
Here, we are not on a commission. Some of us know a lot more than others. Most know more than sales reps and some of use talk to the manufacturers anyway.

If you follow links from some of us and READ them, you will know who give, and who asks.....

I have 2 GO5200 and are great. Ideal for me. There are bigger and others available that would be better for your needs. Only you know that, and really if you ask here, we can help.
You may not even need a unit! a phone with Gps and an app maybe enough

But if you have a unit with a failed NiCD battery, maybe able to help you

One day, someone might make things work perfectly before release. Sadly not in my or your lifetime. At least by finding problems and sorting them, we are still alive.

Some or none of you may know what I do, or have done. no matter, but I worked and liaised a lot with a mayor battery manufacturer. when many complaining about memory problems, I did a lot of research to see what caused the problem and find a solution. I have one, but soon after CD was banned, so little more was done and NIMH took over and Lithium (different ways).
There is little more said of existing NiCD batteries really, but there is a way to rejuvenation of them
I will give an example. It may work for you or not, but surely worth a try. If not recycle to the correct place. do not just throw away if it does not work.
    Try this first

1 your unit is working but not holds charge. try this.
2 Your unit not working but worth a try.
    3 nothing happens -recycle

1 and 2 maybe help, 3 nope sadly

    1 and 2 try this
put on charge 24 hours do not disconnect but do not try to connect to TT
now and does not matter if over 24 hours
now link to tt. load and keep on, but remove power supply and let discharge and try to make it work without power supply attached ( basically drain battery)
keep trying, until it will not even load
charge again 24 hours and try again
3rd time you do this, it will... or will not work and should be ok again

Basically you are removing the memory of the battery
It should work. OK you are using an old TT unit, but should work again

Please make comments here. Only though if you have TOTALLY followed the instructions. I will be passing on the information to my friends, the manufacturers
