    @ LurkerLurk

    Your navcore is already updated to 8843, it is corrected as well as the last map 1040, but despite this, you are unable to get Carminat to work.

    With your original SD card and the Southern_Africa_855_2938 map, everything works, so it's not a hardware problem.

    I see a reason for this.

    To make recent maps work on your device, you need at least version 8842 in the internal memory of Carminat, but your original map, Southern_Africa_855_2938 (Southern Africa-204) was published in July 2010.

    At that time, at best, the navcore version was the 8841 provided that it was updated when it was released, otherwise it would be 8840 or worse (for the operation of the maps, but not only) 7842 or 7841.

    To check it, look at the root of the SD card, you should find, if it exists, a file "install.bif", open it with a text editor and look at the value of "Bootloaderversion =" if it doesn't is not 8.0055, your navcore is not 8843.
    If you cannot find the file "install.bif" on the SD, this means that the update of the navcore of the internal memory has not been done.

    Example of what you should find:

    [TomTomGo]
    BootloaderTarget=s3c24xx
    Bootloaderversion=8.0055
    LinuxVersion=529125
    ApplicationVersion=542199
    RamDiskVersion=20100629

    Philippe you are very lucky, the Carminat expert is there and I am 150% convinced that he will offer you the solution you are missing and can do the best.

    @jpgblue, I had a second iMac 21inch somewhere on the floor with IOS and Windows 7, which now only works under the latest version of Linux Ubuntu, more about this later because I like the startup noise that that thing makes now not so.

    Use the map: Africa 1040_9803 or South_Africa_Swaziland_and_Lesotho 1040_9807 better the first.

    Remember that no green or dark green map will work in an 8xxx navcore

    Hello, sorry for the late reply. I was busy until now.

    I had a look and can't find the 'install.bif' file but I did find the BootLoaderVersion in the loopback.ex3 file (not sure if this would be the same).

    RamDiskVersion=20181127
    BootLoaderVersion=80036
    LinuxVersion=529125
    ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8843
    ApplicationVersion=3130258

    How would I go about updating the navcore internal memory?

    Thanks

    I followed your post, my carminat unfortunately displays "no maps found!'. Which is slightly better than the usual errors...

    As pe1agp advises, back up your SD card to your computer first, you will need it anyway to complete the procedure.

    Carminat TomTom is updated in two steps

    1st step, update the SD card (with its full content) on the computer with TTHome2.
    2nd step, updating the internal memory of Carminat with the SD card and the previous update.

    To ensure that your navcore (in internal memory) is updated to version 8843, do the following.

    PS I go into detail to allow novices to follow this way of doing things.

    Take an SD card that you will format with "SDFormatter" from Panasonic, you will find it here:

    Go to the car, install the SD card in the Carminat reader (engine off, radio off).
    The Carminat must in no case read or write to the SD card during the insertion or removal of the SD during operation.

    Turn on the radio or turn on the ignition or start the engine.
    Give Carminat time to start, it will copy from the internal memory, the loopdir folder on the SD card.
    Switch off the engine then open the door (driver), make sure that Carminat is stopped or use the "remove SD card" function
    Go to your PC, insert your SD card into the reader, open the loopdir folder which contains one or two files: "ext3_loopback" or / and "loopback.ex3"
    Delete the "ext3_loopback" file if it exists.
    Open with a text editor (Notepad ++ preferably) the file "ext3_loopback", search for the value "ApplicationVersionVersionNumber =", there can be two, change the numerical value to 7841 twice if two values "ApplicationVersionVersionNumber =", save, exit Notepad.

    This information is the content of the ttgo.bif file in the loopdir folder, but is not accessible at the root of the SD in the form of a classic ttgo.bif file.
    You will have to create it to put it in the root of the SD card to be able to activate map and navcore.

    Install TTHome2 if you have not already done so.
    If it is not already installed, I advise you to use the version v2_11_9_702 which you will find here:

    I have seen restrictions with versions 2.20 (current version).

    Install TTHome offline, then open the folder location: C: \ Program Files (x86) \ TomTom HOME 2, then open the xul folder, edit the application.ini file, modify line 18 by changing the version to 2.20. 4.1298
    Connect to the internet and launch TTHome.

    It will offer you an update to navcore 7842, accept it and follow the directions from TTHome.
    Return to the car to update Carminat (internal memory).

    Please note, if the version of the internal memory navcore is equal to or higher than 7842 Carminat informs you that it is not possible to downgrade the internal memory navcore.

    Return to the computer and resume from the step of modifying the navcore version of the file "ext3_loopback" in 8840.
    If Carminat has accepted the update with 7842 (or 8840), you must continue with TTHome which will offer you the next update which can be directly version 8843.

    The update of Carminat on the car finished, you can create the file ttgo.bif either from TTHome "Help / System information / copy to clipboard" paste in a text file which you renamed ttgo.bif.

    Place the ttgo.bif file at the root of the SD card.
    Delete all the folders and files on the SD card except the loopdir folder and the ttgo.bif file that you just created.

    Copy the contents of the backup to the SD minus the loopdir folder and the ttgo.bif file.

    For the map, I advise you to use Africa_1040_9803 which is specially designed by TomTom for your Carminat device. Southern_Africa_1040_9803 is available, but does not have a meta code.

    You can now activate the navcore and the map with your preferred activator.

    I will try this method. I already tried it without success. The carminat gives nothing but I think it might be the SD card. So ill try get a new SD card this weekend and give it a shot.

    Before purchasing an SD, first update the internal memory navcore.
    Your bootloader is 80036 and cannot load the 1040 map of the SD you are currently testing.
