Default Major roads included in maps ?

I am living in The Netherlands and installed 2 maps on my "XL Live" device.

    1. Benelux (covering The Netherlands)
    2. Eastern Europe (covering destination country, which is Kroatië)

Many years ago I remember that all maps (Europe or part of it) contain the main roads to get to a country which is covered in that map.

When I load the Benelux map the device knows my GPS location and I can navigate within the countries that are covered within this map.
But when I load the Eastern Europe map, The device doesn't know where I am and I am unable to navigate to another country. He doesn't give me the route.

Message: no usable location around the GPS position

The device doesn't have enough storage available to install the full Europe map (which is about 4 GB and I ony have 2)

Is it impossible to use the Eastern Europe map while I am not located within one of the countries of this map ?

Yes, you need a map that includes your current location as well as the destination.

You're right we used to have maps with "Plus major roads of Europe" etc but no longer.

If you cannot find a suitable map from fredderfs link above that covers the countries you need (AND has a meta) then unless you have an SD card slot for larger cards then you could possibly install another map (E_Europe) at the border if you have a laptop etc or possibly just have the E_Europe map loaded & drive to the border without relying on the satnav?

Naar welk land wil je precies ?
To which country want you to travel ?
It is easy to drive through Germany, then you will probably get into trouble if you leave Germany.
With cutting and pasting you can make the map smaller, for example omit the POI file(s), delete the cspeech and similar parts.
If you live nearby Capelle aan den IJssel you may use my One XL with 32GB SDHC card

I would advice you to use the Europe_Zone_5_1030_9574 map. Look in the link Fredderf gave you above
When you take the poi.dat file out, you can reduce it to 1.65 Gb.
then you can navigate from Holland to the east of Europe

Thanks for your offer borrowing your device. I live near Rotterdam, so quite close by.
But I would like get this device working, by the way it is not mine, but from my sister.

@Peter, thanks for your tip, I would like to try your option. I notice that many maps are available on this forum, but download is very, very, very slow. (less than 50 Kb per second). is that common here ?

I do have the TTActivator app (v0.7) which is very nice and also has a map download feature in it, the download is very fast (> 100 Mb/s) but the app gives an error at about 70% and the download stops.

What you you guys suggest to do for getting a map ?

Just be patient and download here or do you use another method ?

    ---

Update: it's even worse. I downloaded file 1 of 3 now going for the 2nd one and get a message that the file doesn't exist.
