Thanks rusigor, I am beginning to understand a little better.

Do we know if anyone has used the Renault Carminat solution successfully with the Mazda NVA-SD8110 (using a specially prepared card)?

When I originally tried to update the original 4GB card using TTHome there was not enough room for the newer Europe map - there was not even enough room for the smaller Western Europe map. I moved all the files over to a larger 8GB standard card and the update appeared to complete (at that time) and the card continues to work (It may have been a navcore, etc. update only since no subscription for new maps was in force). The CID of the 8GB card must obviously be different from the original 4GB card. Maybe the activation of the latest maps involves the CID but the earlier maps did not?

Why do you try to guess, instead of taking a look on activation file?
If it is *.dct - activated to your device ID. If *.mct - to SD card CID. Anyone of them can be used by TT. Simple!

Thanks rusigor - your explanation is much appreciated!

I have done a file search through the original 4GB card and there are 2 .dct files:

    Safety_Cam_UK_Premium.ov2.dct
    Europe-877.meta.dct

    and 6 .mct files:

    Safety_Cam_PT_Premium.ov2.mct
    Safety_Cam_NL_Premium.ov2.mct
    Safety_Cam_IT_Premium.ov2.mct
    Safety_Cam_IE_Premium.ov2.mct
    Safety_Cam_BE_Premium.ov2.mct
    FuelStationsEU.ov2.mct

So, I must conclude that the Europe map activation is via the Device ID?
Looks like it may not be possible to update to new maps on the NVA-SD8110 by any of our methods?

Looks very odd... As if first there was map of Europe, activated to card's CID, but later on map and Safety_Cam_UK_Premium were updated to device ID.
It means - Europe-877 and Safety_Cam_UK_Premium will work for your device just copied to another (any not original) SD-card. Whilst other cams - will work only on your original SD card, but in any other NVA-SD8110 device.

Nevertheless, mentioned above Renault Carminat solution with custom ordered SD card with certain CID will work for your NVA-SD8110 device.

rusigor - thanks for your encouragement.

I guess the NVA-SD8110 is not popular enough to attract so much effort!

I am primarily interested in the later Europe maps rather than the safety cams or fuel stations.

If the Carminat solution would also work for the Mazda NVA-SD8110, this must mean that the SD cards are the same and interchangeable (including the navcore)?

I noticed that the files for the Carminat 'solution' are just under 4GB and would therefore fit onto the original Mazda card. This prompted me to check the CID of the original card (easy with Linux but not so in Windows!). The CID is NOT the correct one for the Carminat solution, confirming that the original cards are not of the 'specially prepared' type. The Carminat solution looks very easy to implement - if I can get hold of a correct blank card - I would like to give it a try and report the result to add to the body of knowledge here.

I see IOTECH list a CID changeable Mazda-Nissan-TomTom SD card and can order 1 off - anyone tried this?

Hi, i allready patched the navcore NVA-SD8110 but didn't installed it on the device yet. Before i can do this i have to repack all the files as it looks like an original image.
I also tried to clone the orig. sd-card but failed as it has a different cid.

Does anyone know the cid for a 8GB card?

For further tests i ordered on ebay a card which has a changable cid. When i receive the card i'll try to clone the orig 4GB card again and hopefully the device accepts it.

Does anybody know which part checks the cid? navcore or bootloader or something else?

BTW: the ttgo.bif file can be found in the loopback image on the sd-card which can be mounted on a linux system.
BTW2: Fast Active can't patch the navcore as it has a different name.

    blackbird,

Please keep us updated on progress with the NVA-SD8110 - I am trying to understand a little more about this unit and how to update the maps.

When you say 'patch the navcore' is this on the SD card or on firmware within the unit? How did you patch - what did you do? It is reported that the changeable CID cards do not work, there being further requirement(s) that only specially prepared cards provide (no-one here seems to have identified what the further requirement(s) are?). I simply copied the files from the original 4GB card to a standard 8GB card and it was recognised in the unit and by TT Home which appeared to update 'something' but not the maps as I don't have a subscription.

In the meantime i got an sd-code with changable cid but i got the same "error" message on the screen that this card can't be used. I think there are further step
necessary but for now i have no clue which one. I don't think it's something in the bootloader as the message that the card is not valid shows up after the card is loaded and at this time the navcore is allready loaded.
With patched i mean that i made the same changes to the navcore as when you use Fast Activate on a standard navcore. The patched file is located in the user partition of the used linux system and to install the new one i have to prepare an installation package that is equivalent to the tomtom one. I hope there are no checksums.
