Devil Is it possible to Shrink a Map?

    Hello guys,

I have TT One IQ Routes Ed. device with 64MB RAM and 2GB internal storage. 2GB is limiting my options but the map in question in just over 2.2GB.

Has anybody ever attempted to strip a map from some of it's attributes to save 2-3 hundred MB's before?

Another couple of options worth considering:

if you're hand is steady & your eyesight's good enough, or maybe try this trick we used to use to shrink the truck map (depending on which map you're using and which country(s) you must have coverage for) which I can't find the post for so here goes:-

Although I now provided a few Truck editions suitable for 2GB devices, it might be time to hand the work over to everyone that needs the map faster or with other modificatios.
Since the procedure is pretty straight forward I will just sum it up in a few easy steps.

    Before you start:
Make sure you have the complete Truck map and of course that a meta code is available.
You also need a full featured country map from within the coverage of the Truck map - either the country you mostly drive or just something small like the DACH map.

How to make the map small enough:
Firstly be aware that all these mods will cause some negative effects too, like no POI's, different visibility of park and industrial area and other minor things.
All that won't affect the pure Truck navigation though...
Ok let's get going, shall we?
    1. If not done unpack the downloaded maps into corresponding folders on your hard drive.
    2. Create another folder to store the smaller Truck map in.
(of course you could just extract what you need, but simply copy and delete is easier for most users)
    3. Copy all files from the original Truck map into the new folder - your working folder from now on.
    4. In the working folder delete all cspeech files as well as the following files:
    crpoi.dat
    poi.dat
    cphoneme.dat
    5. From your single country map copy the following files into the working folder:
    borders.dat
    citymap.dat
    citymap.met
    faces.dat
    faces.met
    housenrs.dat

    Confirm to overwrite existing files!

If you still have enough room left you can add the crpoi.dat and poi.dat files from the single country map to get POI's of your area,
add the cspeech file for your language,
    or simply add some music
Be aware that especially the 32mb devices will need some free MB on the storage to perform properly!
If you fill up until you only have less than 10mb left you most likely will get into trouble during navigation.
Since this is all a last resort option I would advise to just leave it with the above and not to use spoken street names of the whole POI collection, after all it will also reduce the performance on low end devices.

I have the map reduced to 1.99GB just from following steps 1-4.
The map has 5 folders named as country codes, must they remain or are they safe for removal?
    Please see the screenshots below.

Yes, remove those...better yet, make sure the final result looks like this = 1.53GB

    Thank you fredderf!

Could you briefly describe what has been removed just so I'd know what to expect missing from this map?

I'm preparing this device for my relative who resides in Belgium hence the concern.

There isn't anything missing as such...

In simple terms, a 1025.9424 is a map originally designed for a Mazda car inbuilt sat nav...by deleting those extra files, you're removing the files that aren't compatible/necessary with your TT device

I just shorten a USA map for a friend.
He does not need California or Florida plus a few others.
Warned him if he decides to go to these places I would get him the states.
    Anyway he is happy.

For whatever reason the street names are messed up. Instead of meaningful names, I get gibberish of random letters and numbers. This happens on the map and for drop-down address selection. The GUI and menus are fine. Any ideas guys?

Is this something you do as a hobby for people close to you or...
In my case the maps are either too basic, too large or have no meta (Western EU 2D). The perfect map for what I'm trying to achieve would be a EU South West and half of EU North and both have metas.
Let me know if we can work something out, if not I'll just get the EU North and call it a day as this whole update procedure has been dragging for almost a week now.
