Default Updating Tomtom One XL version 1

    Hi there,

I'm trying to update my tomtom one xl to the latest Europe West map
and also update the Navcore. I read through the forums and came up with
    Europe West map 10.11 8978 and Navcore 9.510.2 .
Can anyone advise whether this will work on my device and if not what would
be a better option. Also could someone please tell me where I can find instructions
on how to get the new map & navcore working. I've downloaded fast activate but not
sure if I need any other activator to get it all working. Thanks very much for your help.
    Cheers,
    Rob

PS (Would Europe West map 10.118983 work better? Looks like it has better options like Cspeech & ASR etc)

Mine first question is, which Bootloader is in use now ?
If it's equal or above 5.5022 you must already able to use SDHC cards above 2GB
If it's a TomTom One XL started with the first two characters L1 in the serial number, I have the same
If yours also start with L1, you may be sure it will run very well with Navcore 9.510 for 32MB devices
I bought this one second hand, don't know if the first owner did a Bootloader update, mine is using 5.5279, but I'm rather sure 5.5128 will run too.
Mine is running all the latest 1010 and 1011 maps for which is a meta code available
It even make use of TTS voices, which I prefer.

Tell us what you expect to do with your device and which map you most need, please.

    P.S.

Here is the most simple manual to install a new map within 7 steps.

7 simple steps to update your device with the latest map
To update your device with the latest map, follow these simple steps:

    1) VERY IMPORTANT: Connect your device to your computer via USB.
Using Windows Explorer, open your TomTom drive and backup the complete contents of your TomTom.

    2) Check your navcore version.
You can do this either on the device menu under Version Info, or you can check the navcore version in TomTom Home
when the device is connected to your computer, or by opening the ttgo.bif file with notepad.

    3) Check which map is compatible with your navcore using the latest compatibility chart.

    4) Delete the old map folder.

    5) Extract the map using WinRaR or similar.
Copy across the new map folder into the root of the device.
Make sure when you open the map folder it only contains the map files, not another folder within a folder.

    6) Download the latest version of FastActivate
Extract the file and copy across FastActivate.exe to the TomTom drive (the root of the device).

    7) Run FastActivate.exe from the TomTom drive, clicking on the first 3 options in order, waiting for each to complete:
Update meta, patch maps, patch navcore.

Absolutely! The biggest advantage: This map would be unlockable, the Western_Europe_1011_8978 not (at the moment)!

    Hi there pe1agp,
Thanks for your reply. Regarding your questions I'm using bootloader 5.5128. I want to use the most recent version of Europe West map with the most functionality, ie ALG Speed Cams, Cspeech etc. I tried the steps (1-7) you mentioned with map Europe West 10.11 8978 but didn't have much luck. Maybe it's the map. Will try again. Do I need to download meta codes separately or do they come with the maps? Thanks again for your advice.

Thanks for your reply. I thought Western_Europe_1011_8978 had meta codes but must have got that wrong. Will try 10.118983

The only meta codes we have are the ones where some generous person has bought the map from TT and donated their meta code (serial number) to the community.

You can see all of the 1010/1011 meta's we have collected to date on this page:

If the meta code for the map you're interested in is not there, you have two options:
    1. Buy the map from TT and donate the meta to the community yourself
    2. Look at the meta's that someone else has already kindly donated to find the next best alternative

Best friend fredderf has more or less answered your question.
Yes you have to get meta's via for instance option #1 within Fastactivate, when it's not there, follow fredderf his options
You're already able to use SDHC cards above 2GB, sure 32GB is possible too, why than a map with only a part of Europe while whole Europe with all you wishes is possible.

Hi thanks for your reply re meta codes. I was going to use the West Europe map as my current SD card is only 2GB so anything bigger won't fit. I didn't realise you could use an SDHC card as I read on a tomtom forum that only SD cards would work. Good to know that isn't the case so I can use bigger maps. Thanks for the info!

If you use bootloader 5.3xx or below - sure you can use only full format SD cards up to 2GB. But if you'll upgrade it to 5.5xx - your TT will read SDHC/uSDHC+adaptor up to 32GB.
