    GPS Device Map issues TomTom Go 720

    Hi to all

    My partner has a Go 720 which has an SD card slot. In the slot, is an 8gb micro SD card in an SD Card-sized adaptor.

    A couple of years back, I updated the Navcore to 9.510 and the maps. Subsequently, I updated the maps without issue until a few months back when my partner complained that the maps/speedcams seemed to have reverted to when she first got the device.

    Today, I finally got round to looking at it and the problem is that, despite having copied a Europe_1010_8891 map to the sd card and used FastActivate (latest version) to patch the map, the device loads only a very old map (I'm assuming it's the one originally loaded on the device's internal memory). I've looked at the ttgo.bif file and it has the right navcore version but shows the v old map (Western_Europe_705_1480).

    On all previous map updates, all I have done is copied the new map directory to the sd card, deleted the previous map directory & files, run FastActivate and patched the maps, voices & speedcams. I realise now this may not be the 'correct' method for updating new maps but this has always worked for me on my own device and, until a few months ago, my partner's device too.

    Clearly I have done something wrong and/or missed something but for the life of me can't work out what the issue is.

    I've tried editing the ttgo.bif file (I kept a renamed backup of the original) but this didn't solve the issue. Upon booting, the device appears to read and load the sd card but once booted up, still displays the very old map.

    I looked at the MyVersions, txt file created by FastActivate when you take the 'My Device Info' menu option and it shows:-
    ttgo.bif:
    DeviceName=TomTom GO 720
    DeviceVersionHW=GO 720
    DeviceSerialNumber=M6xxxxxxxxxx
    BootLoaderVersion=55120
    ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
    ApplicationVersion=1234792.1
    CurrentMap=Western_Europe
    CurrentMapVersion=705.1480

    Map(s):
    F:\Europe_1010_8891\

    Storage:
    Size 7608MB, Free 4027MB

    I did suspect that, despite the device appearing to read & load from the sdcard that perhaps it's not doing it successfully. My PC has no problem reading the SD card and I don't know how to test the read/write function of the device. This may not even be the issue at all but I'm sure all you experienced people can and will know better!

    Can anyone help, tell me what I need to do (to both sort the current issue and to stop this happening in future) and put me out of my self-inflicted misery?!

    When all necessary files are on the SDHC card, Clear the internal memory, please.
    Use only thr SDHC Class 10 card

    Thank you for your quick response. It's much appreciated.

    What's the best way to clear/delete the internal memory of the device?

    I have checked the speed of the microSD card. It is Class 6. I do understand that the faster the card, the better but...it's always worked until recently so should I have any reason to suspect the speed of the card may now be the issue? Apologies for the dumb question, I'm just trying to understand!

    Many thanks

    There are sure no dumb questions
    Just delete all files from the internal memory an be sure all necessary files are on the SDHC card.
    Any class will do, but as you wrote already a little bit more speed is the best solution

    You need to put a copy of ttgo.bif and FastActivate.exe onto the SD card and then activate the map...

    pe1agp is right...a class 10 card is preferable as it will be faster

    What they say PLUS run option #10 in F/A to ensure you have the latest metas in it as that meta's quite recently be shared/added to F/A

    I'm trying to find where, BUT, it's been said/proved before that anything over a Class 6 card is a waste of money as it's the Read speed (that the device uses) rather than the Write speed which is how SD cards are rated but I'm wearing bullet proof vest in case you try to shoot me down for being wrong

    Just for info - that's actually exactly what I've done every time since my partner got the device. Hence my confusion about what's gone wrong recently?

    I always update the metas before trying to patch the map. FastActivate reports a complete map and successful patch. I remember researching the sd card speed issue when I first got a TomTom satnav and getting broadly similar advice but it was a very long time ago!

    didn't you just try to go through (TT-720) settings - change map - choose your new map?

    Surely not as simple a mistake as forgetting to do this??
