Default Dead battery? BEFORE changing batteries....

I would I would strongly recommend you treat yourself to an under £2 "USB Doctor" like these which can help eliminate poor connections/leads/plugs, and/or prove you really do have a genuinely dodgy battery which wont hold its charge.

Dependent of the unit, the battery can be replaced and I have contacts from where the batteries can me obtained and the tools required to do the job. Dependent on the device also time and skills to for this work, and indeed if it is practical, or achievable even. Having done several, you may do it, or pay someone.

Time, skill and battery cost should be taken into account.

If you do not use the unit, other than in the car, lorry etc, and connect to your pc. A none charging battery. should not really be an issue. Actually, the battery is probably not dead, just appears to be.
Most batteries in a tomtom can be rejuvenated except Lithium ones. You only have to have the knowledge on how to do so.

This is obviously the cheapest way and although cannot get the original power back, it certainly works. I did this for a friend and colleague several years ago and his unit is still running
