Default How to activate traffic [RDS/TMC] on Tomtom units in Australia.

Thanks to this forum, I have had some success in updating my maps and speed cams on a Mazda TomTom NB1 system. I am now looking at trying to activate RDS/TMC here in Australia.

RDS/TMC service in Australia is offered by a company called SUNA. Up until 2009/10, TomTom units that supported RDS/TMC came with lifetime traffic service with SUNA. Then, for some reason (presumably licensing issue), TomTom decided to stop supporting SUNA ... BUT all previously sold units could continue to use their life long SUNA service.

So, apparently there are 5 files that if copied from a unit BEFORE TomTom stopped supporting SUNA - it is possible to enable RDS/TMC in Australia! I'm am unsure of the accuracy of this information.

    The 5 files are:
    <root directory>
    mctx.dat
    mctx.txt

    <Australia Directory> (maps folder)
    tmccodes.dat
    traffic.dat
    traffic.inc

The important thing is, these files have to be Australia 2009/10 vintage (before TomTom cutoff SUNA support) ... Or perhaps using files from another country where RDS/TMC is not disabled may work also??

Any expereinced members/moderators think they can help me source these 5 files. I'd love to try it out and see if I can get traffic fired up on my Mazda CX-5 (TomTom NB1 System) in Australia!

Note: my current maps folder only has 2 of these files:
    tmccodes.dat
    traffic.dat

To get things started, does anyone have a working link to either an 830 or 835 or 840 Australia map? These are 2009 vintage.

It is for a Mazda NB1 system. I am currently using Australia 955.6746 Maps. It needs to be files from before 2010 - so around version 830, 835, or 840. I will only be extracting the files related to RDS/TMC.

As explained in my first post. I have hardware that supports RDS/TMC in a country that has a RDS/TMC service (SUNA Australia). Problem is TomTom stopped support for SUNA in 2010. TomToms produced before 2010 still support SUNA. I have read that someone had success getting RDS/TMC to work on newer TomToms in Australia by replacing the RDS/TMC related files with ones that date back before 2010.

The old files I am trying to find are:

    <root directory>
    mctx.dat
    mctx.txt

    <Australia Directory> (maps folder)
    tmccodes.dat
    traffic.dat
    traffic.inc

    Test 1

Out of curiosity, downloaded US North West 960.7056 map and tried replacing my tmccodes.dat and traffic.dat with its. I was aware of people using RDS/TMC in this region - so was curious if the traffic bar would at least show up. Test failed. Still no traffic bar.

Still hopeful a moderator or contributor may have an old Australia 830 or 835 map backed up somewhere so I'm able to try those files.

Also, can anyone who is using TMC confirm if they have the two mctx files in there root directory... and the additional traffic.inc file in the map folder (the downloads i have tried so far only have tmccodes.dat and traffic.dat

    Thanks.

Some years ago when I wanted to use a motor cycle Navcore (which didn't support RDS-TMC) onto my one I just put a copy of the GNS folder and the mctx.dat file from another Navcore to the root of my device in order to use RDS-TMC.

Happy to hear you had success with activating TMC by copying the relevant files. I think I will have similar success if I can just find the right Navcore and maps to extract the appropriate TMC files.

My current Navcore (10.854) does not have a GNS folder or mctx.dat or mctx.txt at the root level. On which Navcore can I find these files?

I think I got mine from Navcore 9.160.
I was under the impression that every Navcore except Rider came with them pre installed .
I think this was the last Navcore for older devices that TomTom released, they are in there :-

I can provide these files from Australia_835_2420:

    22/08/2009 19:07 358,480 tmccodes.dat
    22/08/2009 19:07 39 traffic.dat

I'll zip (147KB) and upload to zippy and send you the download link via PM - is that OK?

The traffic.inc file will be created by TT when the device starts.

Your best bet for the mctx.* files is to obtain them from a navcore of 2009 vintage.

Thanks so much! I'll download and try this one out. Do you know what Navcore was being used in 2009? If possible to provide link to 2009 Navcore would be great also!
