Default Map 2 device to Map 3 Map device street names

    Greetings,
Recently I have updated the old Tom Tom XXL540 IQ device to use Map 3 Australia 1120_12101

After successfully having it activated etc, I went for a drive today with the details entered for destination. I noticed the pronunciation of the street names were totally incorrect. Lucky for me I know the name of the road I was travelling on but the GPS was speaking a different name, weird. Never had that issue previously.

Would anyone know what the problem would be and how to correct it?

If you deleted all the cspeech files to get the map to fit, that is probably where your problem lies.
If you were previously used to the correct pronunciation, which is also my preference, try replacing the correct cspeech file and then leaving out the unused one so that you can use it over a normal computer voice again.

Glad this was raised as this happened to me also but with a UK map. I tried various permutations but it always pronounced the street name incorrectly. I eventually changed back to a non Computer Voice which wasn't the solution I wanted.

If a solution can be found I would be delighted to know what it is.

I'll give that a go and see what happens.

Good job I kept a back up of the original. I'll let you know how it went in a day or two's time.

    Cheers.

I done clean out of the device and reinstalled. I could only find one cspeech file for my device. I also noticed for some reason the voice was set to special 41. wow, that was weird. When I clicked on the special 41 icon. message said no cd / dvd found?? Anyway I selected Kate UK voice. I'll road test tomorrow (Sunday 21st January 2024) and let you know how it went. Hopefully smooth sailing. Cheers.

As promised, Here is the latest. I kept a back up copy of the previous working version of TomTom Australia map , light green coloured map (Map 2 device) After doing another clean install. I placed all the previous info together with the new light green map (Map 3 device) after going through the process of activation, no map was detected. I then installed all and suindry from the new light green map. Success, map was seen and activated.

I went to test the device 3 hours ago and no joy, again the street names were incorrect called. Spoken directions instead of turn right into Logan Reserve Road was pronounced as turn right into Logistic Circuit....Not good. Don't know what else needs to be done but will be going back tp the old nav 2 device map and see if the streets, suburbs and roads are correctly spoken.

I'll let you know what happens.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the report, indeed perhaps it is an elder error,

Meanwhile I've found an old cleaning tool, it's an old tool, just give it a try when needed.

    P.S.
Place the tool in the same and otherwise empty folder as the map and start the tool

Hmmm, just out of curiosity , I read somewhere about Optimize Nav2 to Map3 Map. I'm wondering whether I suppose to do that also, that's one thing I never did do.

One other odd thing. I know I replaced the internal battery in the TomTom device about 4 years ago. never had an issue with it until recently.

In the interface the battery icon shows 3/4 full , then few seconds later I get a battery symbol saying very low then switches off unless plugged into an external power source. Maybe time for another new battery.

Or leave it that way because it works without it too.
A power bank is often much more convenient and can be used on multiple devices

    P.S,
    Remove the battery

The optimize program Pe1agp provided, only takes away some files that are not necessary for the nav2 navcore and
make the map better fit on a small internal memory.
It delete the next files (if you want it to):
    - cphonmlh.dat file
    - cspeech_*.dat files
    - arp_*dat files
    - postal_*.ttd files
If your memory is big enough, you don’t have to optimize.

By the way, which navcore do you use?
