The answer(s) was given. Only High-Level-maps (with existing code) can use to make a NB1-compatible map. And the identification for a High-Level-map too: all listed map-features must be supported by such map. So only the first 3 rows from the left side are "High-Level-maps"(current 995_8507/8/9). And the neighbor of the NB1-marking (current 995_8546) as special case. These arrangements of high-level, Carminat, low-level, NB1 and his neighbor in the map charts is the same since some time.
Whether a map can be unlocked, can never be taken from the mapchart. Only the meta.txt can give the answer:

Is there anything being copied from SD to the system when the car starts? Is there any chance the system might get corrupted by using cracked maps or everything sits on SD card and I can swap between the one I have now (OEM) and the patched one?

Hey mate, did you use the original SD card or a new one?

You can use the original or a new SD-card, but both must be patched for use of maps from here. The better way is the use of a new SD-card according to the instruction of @schwan (the origin is your "backup"). And you can't damage your device...

Dave, thanks, I'll certainly be doing a backup of the 'new' card. My next duty is to tidy up my 'instructions', fully test them with a virgin SD card, and then publish them here.

I am certainly interested in forming a purchasing group for Australian maps, and would be prepared to throw in A$10-15 for a map (they cost ~A$84 here) if I can find 6-8 other Aussies willing to match that. But then someone would need to tell me how to extract the prized meta data (or where to send it for that to be done; but preferably the former).

On a related note, I know someone who has a stand-alone TomTom GO 6200 with lifetime free updates. If I asked him to do a TomTomHome2 backup of his system (Aust map in internal memory, North America [Canada+USA] at least partly on optional SD card?), and send me a copy of the entire Backup01 folder, could that be used to extract map and meta data that would work in my NB1. If so, how?

    Alfred,

I really appreciate your help, most especially since you have to make a special effort to translate your knowledge into this chaotic English language! :-)

Thanks to your ongoing advice, I think I'm beginning to understand how to choose a suitable map for the NB1. For me, this was the hardest part of installing a new map on the NB1 - finding the right map! So in writing instructions that (I hope) will be useful to other beginners, I need to spell out that search process very clearly.

So please let me check with you if my understanding is correct:
To make an NB1-compatible map, we must (1) find a map version in the 'Compatible Chart' (for whichever main version we're seeking) whose number is in a green column headings (preferably the first three columns), and then (2) we must check that map version in the corresponding 'Thread Finder' page, for the wanted country/region, with map number also in green *and* having meta data available.

    Is that a correct summary?

    Regards,
    Daniel

I used a new card, of course. Never use your original – you'll need that as a fall-back, when the new map process fails to work (it took me many attempts before I got one to work!).

This will be made clear on the instructions I'm currently preparing (just waiting for some clarifications), and hope to publish maybe by this coming weekend.

Regarding your other question, which Alfred has already answered, my experience is that, once you install the 'patched' NavCore in your NB1, you can thereafter put in the original SD card or a new 'cracked' map one, and either will work with the patched NC. But I'll double-check that before finalising the instructions.

@Daniel, thanks for your very kind offer re your mates 6200 but sadly these (and all the newer devices) can't be cracked & I don't believe ever will be. I know, never say never, but; hey, these have been around since 2010 and have not been cracked yet. see

and hopefully others may read it & join in the fun.

PPS crating/extracting meta codes FROM PURCHASED maps is pretty straightforward & safe to do. see point #2 here

Yes, the first 3 columns are the "High_Level"-maps. Only these maps (with code) can be used also for a NB1 (with some additions), if the corresponding NB1-map has no code at the moment. The Tread-Finder-page is only a helpfull thing to find the downloads and the information for the existing code. But maybe sometimes in the first days of new map-releases not up-todate in all parts for some hours (aviable code). Why? This page is "handmade by Orny" too. It need time...
You can find the downloads and the codes of course without this helpful page.

Ok, I guess I skipped the part regarding the patching of NavCore on the car. I thought just patch the map and put it in. So eventually, something will and have to be permanently modified on the car's device so it can accept patched maps.

Thanks Dave. I've posted on the joint purchases page, so let's hope there are enough responders to proceed.

And I have, of course, FastActivate, and thanks to you I now know how to generate metas - made simple by the generous experts!
