Hi stonecoldcrazy,
1 - Thanks
2 - I was just thinking that the instructions would just be safer to copy all the new map files straight over the old ones rather than pick out the ones to be deleted which is more error prone.
Following Greatnloopy's instructions without deleting the files first, I tried the update to Europe (6558) and ran into the same problem as . Using fastactivate I got:Putting the card in my car I got a similar issue where the satnav threw an error about something to do with Europe-864.
I took a flyer and deleted Europe-864.meta and Europe-864.meta.mct and fastactivate and my satnav now work fine. To my uneducated mind I think the instructions need to be updated to remove the old Europe-???.meta and Europe-???.meta.mct files as they belong to the old maps. The new maps come with their own files. In my case, for the Europe 6558 files they are Europe-100406.meta and Europe-100406.meta.dct. Obviously substitute Europe for your country's map folder. Perhaps a bit more knowledge is needed because I deleted an .mct file but the new map had a .dct file.
Something is weird. The routing on the original map was not brilliant. With the latest navcore and original map, to get to my home in Petersfield (UK) from Portsmouth it would bring me off the second exit from the A3 which is not brilliant (the first is better). With the patched navcore and 6558 maps it brings me off the third exit which is terrible. If I go my usual way, only at the point where it is trying to redirect me 6 miles back to the A3 and to the third exit on it does it switch to the obvious route which is only 1.5 miles at that point. I hope this is a map issue and issue from this update. Long live my wife's old Garmin!

Have downloaded all necessary tools and preparing to try upgrading my maps using this method. One quick question. Is it possible to revert back to the original unpatched navcore and old maps? After installing using this method on a new memory card - if I was to put my original mazda memory card back in the car, would it 'downgrade' to whatever is on that memory card? Has anyone tried this? Just thinking ahead as I would want to revert to the original system files when I sell the car...
Doesn't the old card need the unpatched navcore update left on it as well so it can revert?
