    Good afternoon everyone,

My father's GO910 has decided to become faulty by showing red cross and word's formatting showing in top left when i connect it to the pc via usb using original docking station, then showing "usb not recognized" warning.
I assume the hard drive is done.
I have done alot of reading and can get a replacement hard drive BUT 2nd hand and risk of that going faulty soon.
Soooooo, from what i have read, is it possible there is a part that i can use hard drive connector socket in unit and converts to sd card in order to use an sd card?

Thank you for any wise wisdom.
    Best wishes

    That certainly confirms 100%.
So all i need is the sd and ribbon cable from a 710, which iwas thinking about, but again now you've done it, i am very happy i can hopefully get this back to life for him has hehas owned it from new well over 7 years.

    P.s. would this be correct?:-

The GO910 frame must be the same as the GO710. I've replaced already month's ago my HDD for a SDHC 32GB Class 10. I've used such a SD slot as you mention.
But when you start the GO910 after the replacemend it will showup as a GO710 due to the SD slot
I think the only difference between both was the HDD/SD, the maincircuit board must be the same I supposse.

if one is on a budget , i think that 8GB class 4 or 6 will work too

    one reminder ;
it may be possible that the bootloader is old
in that case it must be flashed first with an old 1GBcard to 5.522 or higher BL , prior to re-assessable the unit

We pay here about €1 per 1GB for class 10

the 510, 710 and 910 all have the same frame and all parts are interchangeable, if you were to change the hard drive for another then make sure you get the same brand (Toshiba or hitachi) otherwise you will have a problem because the ribbon cables are different at the drive end, if you are just changing to a sd reader then first thing you need to do is get the last official navcore 7903 on a sd card not bigger than 2gb with a bootloader (55120) which will enable you to use bigger sd cards after the bootloader has been flashed, if you just try use a bigger sd card straight away it will not work on the old 4xxx bootloader.

For those who are interested my Hitachi HDD 20GB is till available. I guess 95% OK ? Must be at least 7 years old now.
Cost ???? Only post and package ??? Never mind, if you need it realy send me an email to my private email address, please.

    P.S.
I still have the Compact Flash convertor too with both flatcables from which is one end of the Hitachi drive 0.4mm
with a difference on the other side with o,1mm
    The same cost ???

What i found is it is not that installing an sd slot turns the go910 to a 710 BUT in fact changing the bootloader as i changed bootloader on a friends go910 in past and it shows up as a 710 and that is using still the hard drive.
Anyway, the cable i put link too, did job perfectly.
Yes the frame is same and sd slot is their but obviously not the plastic housing, and if you try using the frame slot the sd card will prevent it to close as it rubs, as you can see in one pic it sticks reet out.
So simply i stuck the sd to the frame behind screen and all working perfectly.
I used a 4gb card for him as he never used the full 20gb anyway, so no loss their and full Europe maps on their for him to enjoy, fully updated.
Thank you Dave for providing the information, very much appreciated fella.
My dad is well happy as he really did not want the new cheaper built rubbish as he say's lol, and he's right haha.
Here's some pics and many thanks, as i learnt something new.
